Similar to 4, there was enough in the initial release to keep my interest, plus there have been some nice mods released,
so that has helped as well.

I bought the game 6 weeks ago but I don't install it yet. I miss the feeling, the realism and the inmersion. Eyecandy is good but not enough. I'll wait for pachts and mods...but I don´t expect surprises.

I was going to start a new campaign when the patch came out but it's being delayed again so it is just sitting on my computer wasting space for now. I have been watching the mods to see which ones to use when it does come out but then again they might not work when it does. I wish you could start the campaign later cause I'm not sure the game has enough playability for me to finish it.

Yes it has.
Picked the game up about 3 weeks ago.
I'm anticipating some great things from the patch coming up.
I've applied certain mods to enhance gameplay.
Overall, lots of work still to be done on this, however i have faith, patience and an open mind.

I played it quite a bit the week after release, but I don't play at all now.

The lack of merchant variety absolutely killed the game for me. I was tired of sinking the same four ships over and over.

The AI was too dumb as well. I never once felt in danger. I hear some of the mods have addressed this but it's a moot point until the above is fixed.

I am eagerly awaiting the next patch. It seems to be the only hope for getting new ships in the game.

I only try SH5 for testing mods.

Like with the Hearts of Iron games, I play a Silent Hunter sub game as a coherent adventure.

HOI3 was recently patched to 1.4 iirc, and I will probably continue playing it again soon. Have not played it since the release, because the game is for me no fun when not being totally into the complicated micromanagement. With each game session, I get burned out.

And similar with Silent Hunter 5, my interest is only with playing it in some coherent manner. Tonnage count doesn't matter, sunk tonnage is not what make the game fun for me. So I await some patching, and hope they will fix the overlapping audio for when walking inside the uboat.

I find the drama associated with the game far more interesting.

I love the game. Of course I have about 20 Mods that make it that way. Unfortunately, there are certain things that cannot yet be fixed, like the problem mentioned above by JCC Like everybody else, I'm hoping infamous Patch 1.2 tackles some of these problems, but from what I've heard I shouldn't expect too much from Patch 1.2 . The list of fixes is pretty short for something that's taken two months to be released. If some of the talented guys in this Community had access to the code and resources that the Devs have, they coulda produced the same number of fixes in one afternoon

In my not-so-humble opinion, the most important question right now is: Will there be a Patch 1.3? There's a VERY good reason why I ask this.

Yes, still play it regularly. It has actually managed to hold my interest better than SH3 and 4, probably because its qualities outweigh its faults.

Good question - Originally I wasnt going to buy it - you know the DRM, the dumbing down - you know the routine - But well I've been playing the series from the very begining so in the end curiosity got the better of me.

So I installed and was a little surprised, sure all my worst fears were confirmed - but there were other elements thet kept me going - not least of these is that for at least for a while there were a number of new mods published nearly every day and these really did tackle some of the issues and improved others

In my opinion the game has the basics to be made good over time - I feel the vanilla game is in a far worse state than SH3 was when it was first released- but if the modders and the assurances of the devs that the game is more mod friendly - well I recon this game is worth hanging in there, at least for a while.

The worst of it is that now with this waiting for the patch and the relative silence re the delay, or a reliable ETA - for me the game is in limbo - I dont want to start a new career with the patch on the way - and having played with a number of the mods installed before uninstalling for a clean install - I really cant face the vanilla again. I sure hope the patch is worth the wait -

One thing worries me is that there seems to be little interest from the publisher in adding on the latter part of the war - so while the modders can attend to bits and pieces I dont think they can alter the career structure which, besides all the waffle abot being dynamic - which it kind of is, it is also linear - which does not bode well re-playability once youve done one camp[aigne

Well my two cents worth - Any way Mr Scones I know your from Canberra so for us antipodeans there's another incentive to hang in there with this game - if we didnt we'd have to watch Austrlaian TV wich is like having a broom inserted in your right eye and extracted through your arse -

God invented computers so decent folks wouldnt have to watch Australian TV

Best Regards to all

I've decided not to make this a poll because the stats don't interest me, only the reasons one way or the other - I've read more than a handful of "I've stopped playing the game for now" posts recently, and when some are from guys who only two months ago were criticising anyone who had a negative comment about SH5, it makes me curious about the game's replayability.

No ulterior motive here, just curious for your opinion, one way or the other.

Wasnt going to buy it due to the DRM but had it bought for me so gave it a go
Ran it for a few weeks but so much bugged me stopped actually playing and started putting a few things right
Slippery slope as the more I fixed the more I noticed broke

Lack of land units, mines and subnets are a real let down
And coming from a target varied background with GWX the total lack of units is an immersion killer
Plus the AI sucks

Still start the game but only to add ports now

The lack of targets was the killer for me.

I got so bored killing the same 3 or 4 ships over and over - I'm sure vanilla SH3 had more targets.

So, with the patch on the way I thought it best to stop playing for a while, seemed silly to carry on when I'd probably have to start again , especially as I could feel the boredom creeping up on me.

I'm back to playing SH3 GWX again and really enjoying it , so my plan is to not play SH5 for quite a while and then see what mods it has when I'm ready to return to it.

Shelved after two weeks for the same reasons stated in many posts above.
