Default Fire?

Does fire in GWX do any damage at all to ships or is it only a visual candy?

I have set merchants on fire and thought, heck there is no way they can control that fire, the ship is done. But the ship never sinks and I have to put two more shells under the water line.

So can fire alone sink or destroy a ship, or is it just eye candy?

I've not yet seen a ship sink purely due to fire. I have intercepted convoys and found ships already on fire from air attacks and such, that my have been on fire for days. I have however seen fires ignited magazines, fuel, and other fun explody things after anywhere from minutes to hours after they have started.
So I dont think a fire itself can sink a ship, but the fire can cause something to sink a ship.

If not, too bad. I don't really have enough experience (in the game) to say either way.

But I do know that in real life, even on a steel ship, that fire is a ship's worst enemy. It's almost paradoxical, surrounded by so much water, that fire could be such a threat. But it's the truth.

While I was in the USS Belleau Wood, we did fire drills and we were Marines! Ahh I miss that dull gray piece of Scheiße ship.

I had hoped that a ship could be destroyed by a fire, but it does not look like it.

I have even had airplanes on fire just circle and circle, joyously aflame, and nothing.

Fire is just eye candy I am afraid.

Modeling fire damage is probably not as easy as it seems.

I do not know much about programming so cant say how easy or hard it would be, just would like if there was like a fire timer. When an object was on fire for a period of time, it would eventually become "destroyed".

You'd need an intensity-chance modifier, for simulating light vs severe fires. So, smaller the fire, more likely it is to get under control.

Could the flooding code be used for something like this? I think it works out the exact same way.
