I added the keyboard command and it always says "Snorkel Not Available"
I searched the data folder and the model and animation is there. Is there any way to fix it? It would be very helpful. |

It was my understanding that snorkels were introduced by the Kriegsmarine around the beginning of 1944, so technically that piece of equipment not being present in the game is correct seeing that the campaign ends in may 1943. I might be wrong though.

The model is there, and it went into widespread use in 1943

I've been trying to get the snorkel working for some time now. If I can get it working then I can use it to control the flags mod (so flags raise/lower). But that bugger of a snorkel just refuses to work at all.

The first operational Type VII boat to patrol with a snorkel was U-264 in February 1944.

Even if it still was available for use, we'd still be stuck with the gamey ability to use the snorkel at any speed we so choose, when in reality boats couldn't run more than 6 knots without running the risk of snapping the snorkel off. A speed limit really needs to be coded in by the devs in order to make use of the snorkel realistic.

I was reading about the snorkel in Blair's book. Most crews did not like it. The boat was basicilly deaf and blind while it was in use. The noise and vibration of the diesel made the hydrophone and periscope impossible to use. In practice, most boats would only turn it on for 4 hours a day to recharge batteries and then switch to electric motors the rest of the day.
