Default How come there are never any (real) warships docked in harbours?

I recently snuck into Tokyo Harbour and went for the closest docks only to find the usual gun boats and 2-3 Maru freighters. Made me think that the dozens of harbours I've been to, I've never even seen a destroyer parked, other than the Yammato mission..

Is it possible to sink one that's docked?

I found a midget submarine docked in port and whether I tried deck gunning it, AA gun shooting it, torpedoes and even ramming at flank, the stupid little thing would just bounce around and not seem to take any damage. I even submerged and emergency surfaced under it! Nothing!

That was in a stock game, I don't know if it would be any different in TMO

Go to Truk and look there.

Most harbors I've been to usually have a few small escorts docked. If you want capital ships, you'll find those at bases you would've in real war, like Truk and Palau. You'll also find all you want in the few ports heading into Tokyo, first one on the left for sure, can't remember the name. You'll find them in Osaka, Kure, ect.. All this in career mode. If you're playing stock I don't think it includes Truk and several other bases that mods add.

With mods like TMO you'll find jap subs that actually travel, not just docked. I sunk two near Truk the other day.

I found a Landed Seaplane, a Midget sub, a Maru boat, and a Gunboat.

I guess the big fish appears later at war when the Japs know were definitely swarming their home ports..

It's also in TMO, only at someplace northeast of Tokyo..

Midget sub is easy to hit with torp set at 4.5 meters...

Just maneuver so that it's down the throat...

I will upload a video of me sinking one.. though it moves later without propeller animation

There is no info of it at the RM. So I figured I'd save my position and fire my last mark straight..

'Shes goin down sir'

Very lovely message..

right now I'm stuck at getting outta there and I have Zeros pummeling me

Hey I took your advice and found it to be a very ire place. Dark, semi submerged and the whole area is full of ship wrecks, then it the shadows I see a flattop and 2 battleships moored but everytime I start to close in on them the %^@#$^@#^ game crashes!!!!!

See my latest harbour visit:

Mind you, these weren't actually _docked_. This is using TMO 1.9.

Sound advice.

When the Marines started their island hoping campain, Rabul was a primary target. Yet the Jap airbase at Wewak was still in operation.

The Americans focused on the air base there, and with it bombed into submission, this opened the door to Rabul.

As a result of these operations, the Japanese move their fleet to Truk.

Look to Turk in late November 1943 to December 1943.

It is possible that you may find a task force just sitting in the harbor asking to be sunk.

I found this one and ended up sinking:

1 Yamamoto Class Battleship

1 Mogami Class Heavy Cruiser

1 Takeo Class Heavy Cruiser

1 Nana Light Cruiser

1 Shokaku Class Fleet Carrier

2 Fubuki Class DD's

2 Yugumo Class DD's

2 Asashio Class DD's

2 Mutsuki Class DD's

Sank the whole fleet!

I'm not gonna tell you that these will be there, but there is a good possibility that they may be.

Also, it is noteworthy that I am playing TMO 1.9.

Same here, pal

I'm at Carolina island outskirts, and just raided Truk..

I sank an Ise, a Mogami, and a Mutsuki

completed the objective and headed back to base (dry)

This was in 1943, August 9th
