An NVIDIA GTX9800 is a good card that's no longer "top tier" but it gets the job done.
I really like my GTX 285, which was close to top of the line a year ago. |

Try it on your old rig anyway my comp is similarly ancient AMD 3000+ single core with a radeon 4670 AGP card and the game pretty much ok if you turn the dynamic shadows off. The only probs are sometimes things slow to a bit of a crawl during the "fireworks explosions" and on entering large ports. But on the whole it runs ok.

![]() I am gonna start building a new computer actually. I recommend it 'cos it's easy and a helluva lot cheaper. I'm gonna buy an 1156 Motherboard for about £70 and go from there.

Should your old rig no longer run the game, I think you're headed for more than just a cpu/graphics card upgrade.
If your comp is really 6-7 years old, your motherboard will most likely not support any current CPUs or Graphics Cards. That means you need to change that, and I'd wager that means your RAM has to go as well... can you see where this is going? ![]() |

LarzJG,
I was thinking of that. You've given me much to think about. Thanks! *edit* please dont think I'm putting together a new computer just for this game, tho. I have a bunch of other games that need new stuff anyway. I dont know what the average lifespan for a computer to run games in this day and age, but it cant be long. I think you will see the price of the Ati 5850 drop once the new range of Nvidia GPUs is released.
You'll also see an influx of 2nd hand GPUs which will lead to bargins look for something like Ati 4870 or Nvidia 260 but dont pay too much for them. |

It's closer to 3 than it is to 6 or 7 years for any rig that needs to do gaming at least, so you've gotten more than your money's worth there. AND since your last computer purchase, prices have found a way more reasonable level.

at 6 or 7 years a failure isnt certain but it is likely to happen before long so if you want to avoid something like that just go all the way, your only talking an extra $200 maybe and you'll have peace of mind its all new. use your old rig for office work, general web surfing, or for the kids homework |
