Refund for the review???? LOL
Neal hasnt even given a review yet!!! ( Wish he would hurry up with his review tho (Hint for Neal )).

And if you ment the Preview that Neal has already wrote, then i dont see why he should take his preview back and refund the cost the OP paid for the preview. You would have to be blind not to have seen the warnings about the game in his preview.

1) It's a PREVIEW of the beta, not a REVIEW of the game at release

2) Everyone is responsible for their own buying decision.

Good grief, I have to spell it out? I was suggesting Neal refund the zero dollars he got paid from the complaintant for his preview. Or at least part of it, which is also zero. Wow... moving on...

I get it!

(I think they thought you meant I should refund the guy what he paid for the game, based on not reading my preview carefully...)

For the casual Gamer?
Maybe it is a piece of crap.
For the Modder inclined?
It may be a dream come true.

Too many people want to complain right off the bat.
Sure patches will follow this version!
Did you not learn from every other release?

Version 1 of any Silent Hunter release comes with
an unwritten 'You can bet on it' patch.

Then more patches till they tire off doing them.
Bottom line is the money.

Once the money is made?
On to Silent Hunter VI.

It's not the Devs makeing the choices.
I met Dan.
I know abit of what he intended SH5 to be.
I can only hope the Devs know that some of us feel for them.

In this day of instant gratification?
Many people expect too much.
I've always prefered a 'Needs tweaking' Game.

But I'm a glutten for punishment!

The rest of us, buy the game 3 months after release, when we already have tons of mods around to make the game a lot more enjoyable, and then we stick around, we play a bit, mod a bit, exchange ideas on how to make it decent and work our arses off to make it happen.

Two years from now, the game will be so awesome, that the rushy kid will hear about it from his friend, will re-install, download all the latest mods and be satisfied by it.

There is a "glory" behind all this, and the rushy kid won't ever understand.

my sentiments exactly.

although I would add that even the current version, which I have been playing for 14 days, probably 15+ hours so far is still very enjoyable.

anyone who has played the entire series from SH1 to now and who takes the time to assess SH5 in an objective manner will see that beneath this slightly rough gem lies a diamond which will eventually outshine all previous SHs.

unfortunately these days, whenever a new title comes out, there appears to be a race among all the internet cretins to see who can post the most negative biased viewpoint. This thread is just the latest example.

however we can be thankful that these clowns have a very short attention span and we wont have to suffer these threads much longer.

Default Hi

For technically minded enthusiasts like myself who want a good simulation with loads of controls, it's hard not to be disappointed because SH5 is clearly dumbed down when one compares it to SHIII. I think it's the trend that worries us, and that's why we bitch. Last year we saw the demise of Microsoft Flight Simulator followed by an announcement of Microsoft that they will remain dedicated to "flying games", no doubt dumbed down stuff for Xbox-like consoles. I guess the explosion of the console market and the great increase in use of computers by the non-technical public, a great dumbing down is an inevitibale consequence.

I remember when SHIII came out I expressed a wish see a walkthrough sub in a future, but I never expected to see all the functionality stripped down in favour of this arcade-console level. The deck gun is appauling with that green trajectory line instead of an angle or distance gauge, and the missing TDC is a sure sign of where all this is going. It smells of decadence.

The reason they dumb stuff down is to try to make it accessible to a broader market, but is that really going to work with SH series? If someone isn't interested in learning a game like SHIII, why would they be interested in learning a game that's harder to play on account of missing instruments and controlability? This isn't going to appeal to the causal gamer. It fails for both the enthusiast and the casual gamer. It's pretty to look at though, which makes it hard to go back to the graphics of SHIII.

If this trend continues I expect SHVI, if it ever happens, will be steerable with a mouse, and have a point and click torpedo firing system...

my review can be sumed up in one sentence "This POS is a floater in the toilet of PC simulatons and should be flushed with all due haste."

side note........ yes I have played it, and no, it does not deserve to take up space on my friends hard drive. IMO.

On my PS3 it would be tolerable. but it is an insult to my intelligence that UBI would try to pass this POS off as a SIMULATION.

yeah I know I spelt some words wrong......sue me.
