Hey guys can anyone help. My bro has just installed shv, however he is getting a black screen when inside sub. Sure I saw something about this earlier this week but now can't find it. He's using navida 8800 and vista 64bit 8gb ram. Told him to update to latest drivers, but that hasn't worked, now getting him to reinstall. Anyone else got anyother ideas or has anyone else had this issue, outside view fine, he can here them talking but can't see anything inside.

Only thing I´ve read here about graphical issues was SHV installing with AV scanner on.
Turning AV off seems to solve the problem, think the AV scanner was AVG. Mud

I get a similar issue while in the pens or inside the sub.
though this almost never occurs inside the command room, other parts of the sub are prone to this experience. I'll enter the area of the captains bunk / sonar / radio area... sometimes the whole screen will go dark. Then after 3 to 5 seconds (rarely longer than 10 seconds) everything will fade back in from black. strange, annoying... i have tried various graphic options changes, also updated drivers. nothing seems to fix this. only once has the game not recovered from the black screen. Inside the pens... i seem to notice this issue right after the lights flicker off. for a moment. the lights dont actually go OFF but the glow of light cast upon surrounding objects goes away... then sometimes immediately afterward i have this black screen problem. 99% of the time though it fades back in to normal after a few seconds ![]()

I have been having the same problems. My 9800GTX took a dump the day I got this game and is currently back at EVGA for an RMA. In the meantime I had to replace it with my old 7800GT....which barely runs the game. I am running it at 1024x760 in windowed mode with all settings cranked down on my 1080p monitor. I have not put in too many hours playing yet (as I just want to wait for my replacement card to come back), but about half the time I play, I will get the black screen within a minute or so of starting. The interface is still there, even the orange crew outlines, but everything is black. If I get through the first few minutes without it, everything is usually OK. Clueless.

Ahhhh, another useless comment by Firewall, I'm glad yours works flawlessly, so does mine, however some people are having issues, hence why they ask for help.
As to the helpful answers, my bro is using a 8800 gt, windows vista 64, 8gb ram and a amd quad core, black edition, will find number of CPU in few mins once I get home from work. I'm sure it's just a graphics issue that needs working round, it's just finding that route. Thanks to those who are being useful. |

I have the same issue with screen going periodically black on and off inside the sub - I sorted that out by setting graphics settings to MEDIUM. My card is nVidia evga 8800GTX (on Vista Ultimate 64-bit, C2D 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM). I didn't look at my videodriver version, it's an older one, I however don't want to upgrade the driver because I had some other (SH5 unrelated) issues with newer drivers...
so, try graphics MEDIUM settings in SH5 options menu perhaps? oh forgot to say that when I get those black screens, Vista reports that my videodriver crashed.. so medium graphics setting avoid crashes for me
