Kim Jong-il was probably amused...

All 3 of those skaters were SOUTH Korean... not North...

The American NBC analyst said before the race that the Americans would do the same if running together late in the race. That is just the way the game is played in Short-Track.

The moguls at Cypress was a good show tonight. Really nice job by Hannah Kearney to pip the home favorite on the last run. Congrats to the US on their first (of many I'm sure) Gold of 2010!

Highbury - thanks for the correction! I thought they were North Koreans - but either way it was a really bad decision to try for that pass. As for the moguls, I watched a part of it, but when those people are doing stuff I would break my neck trying before the first air, I have to shake my head and wander off. Did anyone unseat the German guy last night in the Luge? When they stopped covering that and flipped to other stuff he has a half second lead on the field and the track was slowing.

I have to say congrats to ALL the atheletes from everywhere regardless of whether they medal or not. And on the 1500m race, yea I suspect any team would work together to slow a competitor, but I would much prefer whoever it is not do so and just race clean. Thats the way it should be - and I would have called out the Americans if they had done it.

wow, i've discovered cnbc. They are either showing all hockey or all curling. The only downside, you must suffer through msnbc ads.

I refuse to watch the regular nbc channel. It's all about facetime for the reporter with a little sports intermingled. (or ice-skating)

Curling is cool. I love sports that don't require a special physical ability.

Prime time NBC coverage sucks!
Last night they started showing the 3rd run of the bobsled and Costas says that they're cutting to the final couple minutes of the US-Canada hockey game. MSNBC was playing the game already(I assume live) and I flip over to that real quick and the game is over and they're talking post game stuff already.
NBC just pulled that to make it more exciting.

The night before, Costas said there was an unspecified delay in the start of the short track speedskating final with Apolo Ohno. We all know the thing was taped, just play the damn thing. But no, they have to build it up to keep the viewers and play more of the same commercials.

I've joked to my wife that Costas probably isn't even in Vancouver-he's in New York and the whole show is taped(with the fake fireplace), just like the summer games a couple of years ago in China.

You can view most if not all public European olympics coverage via internet on the European Broadcasting Union's site. Not sure it that works outside Europe, but hopefully it does.
http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/

There's quite a lot stuff from videos to live broadcasts. If you'd like to watch for example some of BBC's live coverage you select "TV Channels Live" >> "Channels 01-12" from the left-side menu and select one of BBC's channels.

I thought it very strange that it is still segregated by sex. Why?

EDIT: same deal on shooting at the summer games

I think if the women are good enough they can have a go against the men. I remember one chinese woman actually beating all the men in skeet shooting.

I find this a bit insane:

That is the photo of Madeline Dupont, a member of the Danish curling team. She is SINGLE, and using the INTERNET to find dates!! She is neither ugly and/or fat and/or old, so why is she using the internet? *boggle*

Maybe segregating the sexes in some sports is a way to protect male egos?

I dunno. Are there any Olympic sports where women and men compete against each other?

I don't think so.

You know, in sailing (a summer sport), a woman's lesser weight would actually be an advantage (in some ways, not so in others). However, a man's brawn would be better for things like changing rigging, etc.

Are you assuming that only ugly fat or old people use the internet for meeting people?

Thanks a lot! I met my lady on the internet. Since she was only 35 at the time, I am sure she will appreciate you calling her either fat or ugly.

People use the internet to be introduced to people they normally would not meet.
