Either that or simply put....this is the nature of the internet beast.

How many times have similar events been witnessed on the www in the past?

World of Warcraft has 12million players where continuous internet connection is required to play the game. Every Tuesday the servers go down for maintenance lasting usually 8-10 hrs some Tuesdays they have a reboot maintenance where the servers are down for no more than 15 min. Recently the Tichcondrius realm was down for two days straight. That's the longest ive experienced in a lock down. I went and did something else till they got the realm back up.

Ubisoft SH5 servers crash or go down for maintenance. So what?

I would rather Ubisoft have a maintenance day like WoW and shut down servers once a fortnight or month so they can make our online experience always up to par. I mean your not going to play the game 7 days a week 24hrs per day are yas? well some might attempt it Your save games will always be available when you log in (SH3 save game bug), your character profile will never be lost even if you delete it or your hdd spits the dummy and corrupts your game - no worries your files will (should) be available to grab of the server.

There are some good points of having online connection to play games.
But it does nothing for my non-online experience except bork it up. They can shove the online experience up their derriere.

Your example is an MMORPG, internet connections are required because it is an online game! This is a sub sim, the multi-player aspect has always been small and very simplistic, for most of us, a net connection is not necessary to our enjoyment of the game.

Yes, and this is very damned inconvenient. Their downtimes may not be as bad as some online games, but factor time-zones into the equation, and the picture is a lot different.

So what? Well, perhaps the fact that we cannot access a single-player game, simply because Ubi's ancient server boxes caught fire and killed all the hamsters? How about that? It's not good enough, and it's not what you expect from (dare I say it again) a single-player game!

What online experience? I didn't realise this was World of Subcraft!

Oh, and that's for you to decide is it? Not all of us operate the same hours as everyone else, and to come home from work only to find the damned server down (probably for the hundredth time) will not only be frustrating, it is bang out of order.

My save games are always available on my computer, and backed up on my collection of USB drives. If you have to have a net connection to manage your save games for you, you're doing something wrong!

Really? I fail to see any good points here; mandatory connection for a single-player game, which will restrict access as and when Ubi decide servers need to come down (or blow up). Oh, but that's right, we won't need a CD, and our save games are stored by Ubi! What joy!

If you need internet running to play SH5 its the same as online mmo as in internet - server goes down your game stops running - there's no offline mode to fall back on.

Yes but it would only be once a week or month even. Just take note that no SH5 on Thursdays when servers are down. Even then you could be in luck the server maintenance could be during AM time 1am to 8am for your zone.

I have no choice thats the way Blizzard have the setup. Even Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 single player games are going to be the same as SH5 - internet connect required.

woah settle down im just saying if we want to play SH5 then we have to accept the online connection so im pointing out its really not all that bad. Yes i would rather single player offline but thats not going to happen with Ubisoft unless they release a offline patch later on. Till then im just pointing out the positive even though its kinda slim to most.

Why? "If you want to do it you have to do it the way you're told"? Never.

But then I'm not a gamer. I don't play computer games because I'm addicted. I'm a history buff, and I rate the historical games I play by how well they reflect the history itself, not for how cool they are.

Yes, it is. It's tyrrany, pure and simple. Nobody has to settle for corporate mind-control, money-control, game-control or time-control.

I've already made a comparison with WoW ...it's been a real drama...

There are no good points for the Player\customer. All the good points are for the company\business.

I will never purchase ANY game using such a system.

Got nothing to do with "how cool" the game is truth is SH5 aint cool at all apart from the detail - take a look at the vids Ubisoft are leaning towards the console player they are aiming for a much wider audience i mean health bars in a subsim? Nice fancy console looking menu bars to select from I wouldn't be surprise if they put in options to use a gamepad, DRM is far from my mind I can't see what the fuss is about but then again im a "PC gamer" Its where they are taking the game that has got me worried - Beware the console.
