Default Craziest sub campaign idea ever!

Are you one of those people that love bits and pieces of both the ATO and PTO? I just hit upon idea to blend the two, make the most out of SH4's functionality, and not let a little thing like history get in the the way of the fun.

Without going into details (or technicalities) of the game, what if one was to create a submarine campaign, based on a totally different war. A war that takes place in the fictional universe of Fallout (you know.. the RPG).

For those not in the loop on that, watch this: (for our purposes the period before 2077 is the area of interest)

Exploring this some more.
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/United...#Pre-Great_War
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/China#...282066-2077.29

THAT is some fertile ground. Think about that. An invasion and occupation of alaska. Thats bound to involve some sea battles and tanker/cargo traffic to hit. A counter invasion of mainland china.

And here is free license to combine technological bits from the ATO and PTO into one unique campaign to create sea battles or ASW difficultites without the restraints of what is historically correct. I know it sounds frankeinstienish, but it might be fun.

Dude!!!!!! What an awesome idea (sorry little overwhelmed with the idea)

Reminds of a book I read where the Chinese had somehow disabled newer technology and war had to be fought with WW2 equipment. Story was around a Japanese super carrier locked in the ice during WW2, can't remember the name

A few more thoughts.

You could start the game in say, 2066 or 2067 (nevermind any hardcoding of WW2 dates in SH4 that may exist for the moment), in a Type9D2, or a Balao, crewed by an American crew. Later on, you could step up to a type 21/walter boat, and finally (maybe) a modern looking nuclear attack submarine like this:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=152226

Now here's a big kick in the jimmy, if one was to rewrite everything to work under the uboat mission campaign, you'd have access to ehh what is it, 6 or 7 (?) possible ranks of promotion, a patrol area grid to expand on, and captain abilities of one sort or another. Then toss in all the possible toys for the subs themselves.

Yeah i know.... crazy. Maybe i should put down the crack pipe.

Well I certainly like the idea. And I'm flattered that you've linked my project. But I see a lot of 3D modeling in the future for this for it to get off the ground. Making a Han class boat for the Chinese, and maybe a Xia or Type 92 would take some work.

Well, i was poking around, and i think the original idea is a bit too ambitious.

For one, the dates do appear to be hard coded. I never bothered to try and advanced the clock, but 1938 to 1945, is all we get. Unless that can be hex edited, i'd call that one an immersion breaker. Looking at the date saying 1943, but pretending its 1967 (or 2067) is a bit too much for me.

For two, there's this little thing with the TDC and the german one looking like its only going to accomidate for 6 tubes - not 10.

Assuming the dates could be changed, id say a psudeo Sino-American war would be plausible. With the old smoke boats giving way to nuke boats. Somethign which the walter boat could pass for.

But the thing is, unless you can turn the game clock to 2066 or something like that, that puts you in the real world era (as opposed to an alternate fictional one), and as ETR3(SS) cited, now your looking at some serious 3d modeling.

To be "believeabe" enough to use existing game resources, youd have to put it on the fictional time line, else your looking at real world timelines, if that makes any sense. If i could change the game clock, it would be easy to use TMO as a base, and go from there, making a small standalone mod much akin to Lurkers Subron50, only in a fictional setting. Too much work, not enough motivation.

Well, here is 8 on the Japanese/German.

And 10 on the Fleet boats.

Beat me to it, Peabody! Yes, the IJN Sub crew has already wrestled with and solved some of the difficult problems. You've got help out there. This is intriguing.

Aren't the Chinese too smart to freeze their keisters off invading an icebox?

If Ducimus wrote it, I'd play it. Of course, I'd die rather quickly, but I'd still play it...
