Default WWII sub book suggestion for everyone..

Just finished reading "Full Fathom Five:A Daughter's Search " by Mary Lee Coe Fowler

Fowler is the posthumous daughter((youngest of three children) of Commander James W. Coe, who disappeared with the USS Cisco on her first war patrol around September 1943.Coe had commanded the S-39 at the outbreak of war sinking two ships and also the Skipjack on severeal patrols sinking four ships.

As mentioned, Fowler was born after Coe disappeared and her mother Rachel, now a widower with three young children, entered what would be an unhappy marriage where the children's father was rarely spoken of.Only after her mother's death did Fowler look into who her father was and what he accomplished.

This is a great book, with plenty of detail about Coe's war patrols and sub related activities as well as looking at it from the perspective of a "war orphan" and how it shaped who she is as a person today. Definitely worth the read, check it out.

Interesting. Will look into it.

You might also want to mention it in the 'What Are You Reading Right Now' thread in the Sub & Naval Discussions: News, Books, Films, and Models forum.

Default Get this book!

Absolutely! A very good read! I got it last September and was very impressed. The Story is well written and gives the reader a little insight into the life of one of our submarine heroes. It includes all the known facts and thoughts of Commander Coe's Contemporaries concerning the Cisco's loss and about who he was.
We also discover what it was like for the families of our lost submariners. Get this book!! You will not regret it!
