Default Sound problem in Windows 7?

Just completely finished the transition from XP to Win7. I love it, first off, so if you're still weighing your options, go ahead and GET IT!

But in SH4 something seems to have gone wrong. In a normal game, I can hear things like my crew, my engines, the music, and things like that. However, I can't hear other sounds, such as the ticking sounds from the stadimeter/TBT/periscope/other TDC functions, but most importantly, I can't hear sonar contacts at all. No sound in the sonar station. I can hear the background noise, and the indicator light comes on when I get a good contact, but I can't hear the contact itself. I like being able to do that, call me crazy.

I'm trying to deduce what the problem might be, or if it's just Win7 being odd, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. My sound card is a Sound Blaster Audigy SE with up to date drivers. My sound has been acting suspiciously lately, for instance I can't for the life of me make my computer pick up input from my microphone jack, neither from my sound card port nor from my built-in motherboard sound port, but that's probably just me not knowing enough about Win7 yet. I don't know, any ideas?

sounds to me like you have win 7 driver issues

it was the same with vista and it took a while before they got all the drivers working right, its just how it is with brand new operating systems, thats why i always wait until they put out the first service pack for it which takes about a year from when its released.

you will probably find a driver fix from your card maker long before bill gates gives you a fix.

i too will be moving to win 7 but not untill win7 sp1 is out

I think the Audigy is a little dated, I second Webster, its likely to be a driver.

Running Win7 64bit here with Xfi Gamer no sound issues on any game yet.

maybe a good excuse to upgrade

webster, stop delaying just do!

No update for me just yet. Turns out I just had to finagle with some things to get it right. For future reference if anyone else has this problem, all I did was go into the Sound controls via the Control Panel, and in the Playback tab I set my default device to the Digital Audio Interface, which should be a standard option in any rig, I believe. Works like a charm now.
