Default Mods for us 1.4:ers

Hi all,

I'm still running 1.4 with no immediate plan to upgrade with the expansion. I've tried to suss what mods I can run and how to install them properly. I primarily want RSRD and RFB, but I can't quite figure out how they will work together or if I can even run them on 1.4. I have downloaded RSRD 15_V401 and Patch2 as well as RFB v.1.4.7, but I'm not sure on how to proceed from here. Can I run them, and in which order do I need to install them if I can?

daft,

Your best bet would be to go to the Submarine Sim Central and read up on what is going on with both RFB & RSRDC. The following link will take you there:
http://forum.kickinbak.com/

Also, you would install RFB first then RSRDC, making sure that you use the right version of RSRDC.

It's getting harder and harder to find 1.4 stuff. The modders have moved on and are producing much greater mods for 1.5 and haven't upgraded the old 1.4 mods to match.

$10.00 for the download of SH4UBM upgrade or a $15 purchase of SH4 Gold is one heck of a bargain! And even if you don't care about the U-Boat (which is a blast once you learn what they call the head) changes in how memory is managed make it load MUCH faster. It only loads what's in sensor range of your sub, where 1.4 loads the entire world before it lets you play.

SH4UBM is well worth the investment.

rfb and rsrdc are made for 1.5 and wont work for 1.4

but there is still a 1.4 version of TMO you can use

find it here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1101

as RR said if you want to use most of the mods out there you need to get 1.5, its a whole lot more than uboats.

it really shouldnt be called uboats because they are only about 10% of whats in 1.5

Thanks all, I've settled for running RFB and it is working fine so far. I'm a big submarine/U-boot nerd, so I don't really know why I find it so hard to get excited about the U-boot expansion. It just doesn't give me enough of a draw to make me grab the credit card and spend.

im surprised to hear adding 1.5 game files to the 1.4 game doesnt cause issues but maybe you just havent run accross them yet.

as for the ubm ad-on, well thats just it, the uboat expansion has nothing to do with uboats

besides the name there is very little in it about uboats

it only adds 2 uboats to the game and none of the ones you know from sh3. it does allow you to try a 9d2 uboat german campaign if you want but there are no german single missions or patrols that come with it.

what you do get from it is a complete tune up for the sh4 game engine so it loads faster and the game works better along with fixes for some game issues so you really get your $10 worth and i wouldnt be surprised if 95% of everyone using it never plays uboats.

to be honest sh4 doesnt do uboats very well and snorkels dont even work and the mod that makes them work doesnt do anything because co2 cant be refreshed by snorkel due to a hard coded issue.

using the operation monsun mod does give you a real german side to the game but there are still issues with it that because of game limitations even with all his talent, lurker couldnt resolve.

Wow... didnt know that. So the more I read about 1.5 the more I think Ubi just used it to suck an extra $24 (when first released I think) to $10 now out of folks for a patch. Bad form IMHO..... but anyway enough griping.

I did buy 1.5 (should be here Monday) finally.... if for nothing else to get it through the clickable link up top and support Neal. Looking forward to trying TMO and other mods.

no, it was always just $10 from the begining but most of us will agree the "so called" expansion WAS just a name used to "sell" us a v1.5 patch.

i think most people given the choice in advance would tell ubi we would be willing to pay for that last patch if thats what it takes than to not have it be made at all so we bent over and let it happen

personally i dont like the president it set by doing it but i dont think ubi will try it again. (at least we hope not)

Default Here Are The Most Recent Mods for 1.4

I also am running 1.4. Here's a list of the Mods I've managed to save (and burn to DVD). I **believe** these were the last of the 1.4-compatible mods:

Real Fleet Boat:
RFB_v1-4_031408 --possible link: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...d=510&act=down
RFB_V1-4_TorpedoFix_081108
RSRDC_RFBv14_V390
...and you'll need: RSRDC_v390_Patch2

Trigger Maru:
REL_TriggerMaru_Overhaul.7z -or- (I **think** you can also use the 1.7.6 release) 1_TMaru_Trigger_Maru_1.7.6.7z
RSRDC_TMOv14_V370 --link at Lurker's filefront site: http://www.filefront.com/14460899/RSRDC_TMOv14_V370.7z/
...and you'll need: RSRDC_v370_Patch1 --link at Lurker's filefront site: http://www.filefront.com/14460905/RS...70_Patch1.rar/

Stock Game with RSRDC:
RSRDC_V350_for_V14
RSRDC_V350_Patch1

- you'll also need the RSRDC CTD patch with all the above: RSRDC_SH4V14_CTDFIX

As for ROW, Pacific Enviroment, Real Environment; rumor has it you can use any of the three with 1.4. I was using PE3, now I'm using PE4. I haven't tried RE.

Follow the order listed under the applicable RFB, TMO, or Stock sections above. PE should be installed last. I use Foo's high-res skins and I install those after PE4.

As for where to find the above missing 1.4 versions of RSRDC, RFB, and TM/TMO; I don't have the answer. I suppose it would be nice to have a download location for the above for those of us still using 1.4.

Duce', Lurker, and RFB folks - please post if I'm telling any lies.

**Edit** Looks like I can upload most of the above to Silent Hunter at Filefront. The one I will have problems with is REL_TriggerMaru_Overhaul.7z as its over the 250 mb limit. I also need to get Duce's and Lurker's permission.

We can only hope they wont try it again.... Like I said I would pay for a patch IF its reasonable in price AND fixed all MAJOR bugs. By what I have seen with all the post 1.5 mods there were still quite a few bugs left.

I will know for myself soon being as I just bought 1.5 and will play a few patrols vanilla to see. THen its off to mod with either RFB or TMO until SH5 comes out.

I was like a lot of you, slow in upgrading to 1.5/UBM. Was I frugal, hard-headed, or what? I don't know. I was enjoying TMO on 1.4, but I just couldn't avoid the siren's call from mods like RSRDC. So, I took the plunge last week. I'm a big fan of SH3, but I've gotta say, I'm in the aforementioned 90-95%: I'm not going to really even pay any mind to the U-boats in the addon. So far, I've been impressed with the slight perfornance increase I've seen, and, of course, RFB/RSDC are a heck of a duo for 1.5!

I think the great thing about 1.4, though, is even if you don't upgrade, there are still good mods for that version...the trick is finding them.

So, whether 1.4 or 1.5, go right on enjoying SH4.
