I started playing SHIII just about half a week ago, and due to my time with DW, the first two hours were confusing ones.
However! I managed to learn something. Here are a few, feel free to contribute to the list so fellow gamers may learn. ![]() In high seas, external view can offer some highly dramatic explosions when you fire off torpedoes; I had a destroyer sunk by a fish that flew for the last thirty metres, crashing violently into the stern half. There are few battleships in grid AN, unless you want to visit Scapa. There are numerous destroyers in grid AN, even more so west of Scapa. Waves that are two feet high along with a breeze is considered "Storm", thus you may not man your 20mm. Without the 20mm, Swordfishes are soooo definitely going to launch on you. Don't attack during midday, especially not with the T-1 torpedo!!! Don't attack destroyers during midday at all. Learn what "Patience" means. Having aft torpedoes means you shouldn't simply face the stern to the destroyer and start hammering "Because I'd never really get to use them anyways". Sinking five ships in a U-IIA is far more glorious than sinking ten in a VII-C. Don't fire at the rear of a C2 because you're so conveniently placed at its stern. NINETY DEGREES! NINETY DEGREES! ![]() And finally: When a C2 breaks in half, the coolest thing to do ever is to dive between the two halves and make it out alive!

Change the shortcut key setting for the FIRE command from <ENTER> to <CTRL+ENTER> or similar.
![]() Go up the tower outside every once in a while to get a breath of fresh air - or are you men immune to each other? ![]() |

I learned not to shoot to quickly. Take your time to get a good shot.
90 degrees is best, but after doing some reading about U-Boat commanders, they very rarely shot at 90 degrees. They mostly shot parallel to the ship. |

![]() On the topic: I've learned to automatically DIVE when a plane's spotted/detected. Automatically. No messing about. I don't like dying to planes.

![]() Your right Ill add it to my list ![]() http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...itle=Main_Page edited to add: Almost forgot. Ive found that "Save and exit is buggy" dont use it. Instead do a save while at sea return to the game and do a return to base. Next time you wish to continue select the "at sea save". |

The best thing I have learnt is "Don't run aground while a destroyer is chasing after you" :rotfl: Happened to me in Portsmouth, my boat was on this crazy angle and I couldn't even raiise my deck gun up high enough to go down with at least a bit of glory
