Depth under keel?

Lack of proper navigational charts forces me to ping depths.

Sometimes I have to do this when destroyer sails at 3-4 km distance from me.
Does it hear my ping ?

I have experienced mixed results from destroyers part when measuring depth. Occasionally I'm depth charged which isn't funny when avoiding it by diving.

They cannot hear your depth under keel ping, but CAN hear your range finding pings from the sonar room if you are equipped

They cannot as in not at all, or just have to be close?

Not at all. It's not modeled in game.

Like what was allready said it's not modeled in the game. Sh3 game engine AI does not know. But if it was for real your A** would be grass.

Has happened to me occasionally.

Thats why I checked so I can ping freely and avoid losing HI (read renown). Thanks for quick answers.

Learn from your mistakes.....they weren't afforded that luxury in RL

nope, though my stealth factor probably went down alot more than a ping would've caused when i hit the bottom at 8knts..

It's cool to do things in a sim for the sake of reality, even if you don't have to. A good example is aircrafts, I crash dive, because in real life they almost always did. But in SH3 if you want you could man the flak guns and pretend you're duck hunting.

in GWX plus OLC with long repair times, youll take damage from depthcharges redicilously easy, so i have sadly had do quit my duck hunting
