Try out one of the Big Waves mods (they come in different sizes) and see what you think then...

I decreased the water speed to 1 (originally 3) in data/cfg/Effects folder and the sea seems more realistic .

How do you open the cfg effects file to alter it?

Any text editor would do the trick.

But be careful with notepad (and the .txt it add
depending on your settings)

I use Ultraedit myself, love that multifunctionnal
editor (text, hexa, and the powerfull features in it)

hope it helps

I like that program too, but every time I make a change, it leaves a ".bak" file there?? Why? And can it be taken away?

this is actually a big improvement. I think the boat rolls over the waves more in heavy weather rather than it being under water most of the time. I'm using big waves 1.5 and the watch crew has yet to be underwater so far.

Do any people with more nautical experience find this be more realistic? If so, perhaps it should be included in RUB, assuming no problems are found.

That ".bak" file is a 'backup' file (pre-edited version) to undo what has changed.
The editor may have an option to disable automatic backups.

Yes, you can delete the backup files (.bak) files. You can also disable the backup feature if you like (Advanced/Configuration/Backup).

I set my water speed to 2 and it looks a lot better, and I can hear the bowspray. With water speed at 3 it appeared at times like the time compression was at x4.
