Thanks for the info but I'm still not able to understand if this fixes the snorkel RADAR so we can use it, or merely does away with the error message?

That problem with snorkel RADAR is a bug that ubisoft should have fixed.

Carcassonne - thanks for the tip!

I've visited that thread, but I must admit I'm a bit impatient. If a thread gets longer than 2 pages, or a post gets longer than 3 short paragraphs, I tend to skip them.

And thank you very much Jungmann for this fix!

Regards,

Nopileo

The fixes that Jungmann added, as I mentioned above, seemed to thwart off the aircraft when using snorkel. The snorkel prior to the fix was literally being viewed as large as the u-boat itself...in short, when using the snorkel was in essence given the aircraft AI a blip on their screen as if you were surfaced. That is, when you use the snorkel you might as well be surfaced at least you have a fighting chance using the flak guns.

When I ran with snorkel from norway to new york, i never encoutered an attack run by a single plane (Jan '45). Perhaps the fix worked too well?

Ok the Fumo Radar that Ubi states go's onto the top of the snorkle is in fact comlete BS. No radar was ever installed ontop of the snorkle. However the Radar Warning Reciever WAS installed ontop of the Snorkel mast head. The reason being that any coverage u would get from a radar unit at sea level would be - well very limited indeed. But a Radar Warning Reciever WOULD pick up an aircrafts radar emmisions from a very long way off (line of sight an all that - plane high, sub low = long range). So the fix I posted REPLACES the Fumo snorkle radar with a known working radar of about equal ability but its mounted ontop of the Conning tower and NOT the snorkel.

Having just said all that it would however be neat to actually have a rada unit on top of the Snorkel and when ur surfaced to RAISE the snorkel and gain some extra range (woudnt be much but an increase is better than none) It would also be niffty to actually have the RWR ontop of the Snorkel mast head but atm I have not been able to successfully shift the RWR nor the radar with out the game either CTDing or getting "XXXX Destroyed" on other subs due to the shifting of the said above resaults in it now being broken if used on other subs.

So the short version is this. Its Broke, the fix replaces it with a working unit, enjoy.

Just wanted to say that I have had a few very successful patrols with the XXI now. I've used your (Cdr Gibs) fix in combination with Jungman's SensorPak.

The radar works good (while surfaced), and at long range (about 20km), no 'xxx destroyed' messages. I'm not sure exactly what else is tweaked in Jungman's patch, but I'm certainly enjoying the XXI now.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Nopileo

But does it work at snorkel depth?

I just reached August 1944 - where the snorkel radar becomes available. I installed it and started a patrol. As soon as I started I got the 'radar destroyed' message. So I aborted the patrol and re-installed the earlier type radar.

So no, the snorkel radar still doesn't work at snorkel depth, as it doesn't work at all...

But using Jungman's SensorPak mod and the other fixes mentioned in this thread the XXI is still a good boat. I cruise surfaced, and get 'detecting radar signals' about 25 miles from the enemy, so this leaves me plenty of time to hide.

So actually the radar is pretty useless here now, but might come in handy for detecting lone merchants at night and/or in poor visibility while on the surface. But the range is still only about 7 km or so, which I believe is a bit too short...?

But the great radar detector range at 25 km sure is a welcome fix, and has made late war life much easier!
