wow. My friend... please take some time and read through the stickies above...there's some really good tutorials that can walk you through some basics and get you sinking some tin in no time!

FYI, there are hotkeys for most functions... try hitting the number keys along the top of your keyboard to set speeds, D to dive, A to stop diving, S to surface and P to go to periscope depth for starters.

Hi Doogerie

You've got a variety of screens to choose from and you select them from the symbols bottom left of your screen. Try them all. And the ones just above them.

On the bottom right is the dials. The ffirst is the speed select dail. Click in any of the segments and the boat will go to that speed - give it a couple of minutes to get up to speed, it weighs 1400 tons!

Next dial does steering, next does depth.

And clicking below each dial shows more groovy things.

+ & - lets you manage Time Compression to cross weeks of oceon in a few minutes.

HTH.

My advice is to always start with the manual in such cases. Years ago my Father and I had a game called Silent Service. While he was scratching his head I was reading the manual.

Cool thanks guys i was in the sub school thing so i could lern the ropes. One more thing how meany torps does it take you to take down a cruser? it took me about 4 and once you have it on the run how do you catch it? Becaus I just let loose all 4 at once all direct hit's but i know that won't work on a convoy as thay will see one sship getting attacked and go after you or run how do catch a running ship? as thay seem to be faster then me. oh yeah i am using the chart tool to contol my sub and then using the littel compaus thing to fine tune my course is this a good idea?

WELCOME ABOARD!

Okay. First, you need to use punctuation in your posts. Having a comma or period between thoughts makes them much easier to read and understand.

The three dials at the bottom right control movement. The one on the left shows the different engine settings. Click the small button and it will change to show the actual speed, so you can pick one.

Go to the Navigation Map. It will show where you need to get to. Click on the different tools on the map. One of them will make a line from your sub to where you want to go. Just put it over the destination and click it. If this makes the line go through land, put it somewhere at sea that lets you make another line to the destination without going through land. These are called "Waypoints".

Your next post came before mine. Most surface ships are faster than submarines. What you have to do is "set them up". This means getting to a point where they are heading toward you. Then you just need to wait. If fast warships are heading away you are just out of luck.

Granted the SH3/4 manual is an excellent shim it still provides some useful info for the rookies out there.
