I really am not impressed by the u-flaks. I think they are a failing concept. Its a u-boat not a airplane ass-kicking battleship.

Well considering the lack of air support they got from the Luftwaffe - it was better than nothing i guess.

Well, like the article states, the U-flaks weren't very successfull.

Here's another interesting sub:

http://uboat.net/types/viid.htm
A mine laying sub!

Just imagine taking on a convoy in the game, then be chased off by a destroyer only to send a few mines up it's way as you make your get away.

dont worry, anything they miss will be quickly added by the modders.

im sure they have many plans of things to do list and are just waiting for a chance to get at the files.

the real shame is because of legal and copywrite concerns it can never be done but i bet there are a few dozen hard core modders here who would freely give their time and effort to take the game further than ubi ever would on its own.

because modders could provide free labor, ideas, and modding talent, along with endless testing time, they could really help make it special. ubi just cant afford to commit the kind of time and effort that modders can. they are great guys but they have limited time and resources that limit whats doable from their side. thankfully they understand this and go out of their way IMHO to give us endless modding abilities with this silent hunter series. many comanies actually would prefere their games not be modded but ubi welcomes it.

imagine if you will if the GWX team got to sit down with ubi and help create the game?

can you see the endless possabilities?

Um.... nope!?
cant say I ever heard of Destroyers escorting U-boats much, certainly not across hot zones like the Bay of Biscay anyhow..

Back before the S.A.M was invented. surface to air defence (in any form) was only ever going to offer a 'soft counter' to aircraft.
Allied air superioity would have made areas like Biscay a 'no go' for Destoyers even.
In other words you need a bunch of fighters.

Look what the Luftwaffe did to the Royal Navy in the first few weeks of the Battle of Britain... stuka'd the crap out of them - so badly, they had to retreat most of their vessles to the North.(Especially capitals)
After that, the Germans quickly realised that the RAF were the bigger problem and targeted them instead..

Anyway i belive the U-flak was a 'band aid' invention, only really intended as a deterrant, and a rather over-optimistic one at that.

Yes a big mistake. Germany lost the air superiority and finally the war.
The solution for the u-Boats was the type XXI but it was too late

Also if germany could success in obtain Air superiority in the biscay bay the boats could be pinned down by aircraft carriers and escorts in other zones.

Since there has been such an overwhelming demand for the VIIC this installment of SH will ship without this u-boat available to the user. We are simply fresh out of the VIIC. We apologize for the inconvience and hope to have a VIIC available in a patch. Have a nice day
