Hey Captains
![]() I just pulled out a dusty SH4 and began playing again. The only mods I've installed is my homemade Keys&Menu altering the default keymapping and the buttons in the lower left. I also use Websters Better Exterior view and DistanceDial and I changed the MenuINI so that launched torps are visible above the torp box. (I think they were hidden behind the top left box before if I remember correctly) So far so good. I still have the following problems : The destroyers are mmm... stupid. I just located a taskforce with a couple of Carriers, Cruisers, a bunch of Destroyers and numerous planes circling like bees on a hive. Since I play on the hardest difficulty (with the exception of map update and exterior view) I needed to get up close to get a firing solution. So I emptied my tubes on a carrier and a cruiser and they went to the bottom. Which ofcourse attracted the attention of the 8-10 destroyers. I started picking them out 1 by 1 until they either fled wounded or joined their buddies on the sea floor. When I finally crawled away scratching the keel on the corals there was only 1 destroyer left desperately trying to figure out why it couldnt sink my decoys with its barrels. ![]() My problem: NONE of them ever hit me with a depth charge or cannon fire. Not one plane was even close at dropping their loads on my sub (Though one destroyer actually got hit by a bomb). Its been a while since I played SH4, so I'm not exactly an Ace, but after that encounter I actually thought about applying for a job on a sub ![]() Sollution : You tell me ![]() Another issue I have is the chronometer. Its just too big. I remembered there was a 70% sized chronometer, but I cant find any 1.4 JGSME ready ones. Thirdly : Sometimes the clouds goes bananas. I recon it is an issue with time compression. The clouds will move VERY fast on normal time level. Is there a fix for this? 4th problem : If I turn on volumetric fog there is a HUGE drop in FPS whenever I look at the rear of a moving ship. It goes from 30+ FPS to 0.5FPS and makes the game unplayable. I have a nvidia 8400M G. Is there a fix for this too? (Other than turning off VF ofcourse ![]() 5th problem : Whenever I use my deckgun I have a 100% chance of hitting the enemy. Whenever the AI uses my deckgun they have a 20% chance of hitting the enemy. Either the deckgun should be harder to use OR the AI shouldn't assign blind people for this job. I usually use my rep to get quallifed personel for gunnery, but it doesnt seem to help much. They still cannot hit a broadside 3000 yards away.... Well. Thats all for now folks. I'll appreciate any comments or solutions to my problems Cheers |

mmm. it just happened again.
Sank 5 destroyers (2 ran away after being hit), 3 Takao heavy cruisers and 5 small troop transports in a single encounter. Not a scratch on the sub. Which of the heavy mods are most recommended regarding improved AI behavior. The AI in vanilla seems to generic : The destroyer targets, I turn to 90 degree intercept course and dive to 20m. As soon as I hear the destroyer passing I go to periscope depth, turn the sub, input the target course and distance in the "computer" (speed always seems to be 12 knots) and fire the tube. BAM!. Next target. All while the non-subhunting ships will drop to 5 knot and sail around, waiting to go down. |

Downloaded the TMO 1.4 (alot faster than expected)
Then new issues arise. The first being that I'm on a laptop which means I have to install my keys&menu. No problem except that when on the bridge and in control room it acts strange (actually it did before I installed my keys&menu) I can move around very slowly, and turning even more slowly (no following aircrafts from the bridge anymore).... BUT I can also walk into walls and out of the area (sub) like in a bad CloseView Mod. Whats worse is that the "look at the rear of a ship with volumetric fog and frame drops to 0.5 fps" bug seems to be a part of TMO even though volumetric fog is disabled. Think I'm going to put SH4 away again ![]() Hopefully the DEVs will be a little more efficient when working on SH5. Or at least beta test it..... So its not full of bugs even after 4 or 5 patches.... |

LOL
Gave it a last shot. The destoyers in TMO 1.4 are even worse than vanilla. They sink themselves ![]() I fired two torps, none hit. Next time I looked up there was a smoke cloud and a oil spil and one destroyer missing. So I went to external camera and watched their behavior. Whenever they were close at passing me, they dropped a couple of cans and blew themselves up ![]() Its a shame as TMO looks really nice. (But then again vanilla looks nice too) |
