Default Back 'at sea'

Just finished a very boring Shore-Duty assignment. Now...'underway is the only way'. Are there any 'add-on' or patches **other** than Patch 1.1/.2/.3/.4, and the ones on the Download part of SUBSIM ??

The U boat add-on(SH4 gold edition) is the latest and that patches you to V1.5.
All the new mods are for 1.5

The U Boat add-on can be downloaded at UBI for about 10 bucks.
I got the SH4 Gold Edition at Wallmart for about 25 dollars.
I think Best Buy also had the gold edition.

Welcome Briney , I hope you have tons of fun playing the game.

While patching the game to 1.4 is a must, try not to jump to adding mods until you've found a good reason for it. Once you find a problem, you can search here and find answers (usually in the form of mods). Boring missions are not a good reason, as even with the toughest mods, like the unforgiving TMO you can search blindly for weeks without a single contact, or, worse, not manage to approach any ship without being spotted and blown out of the water like a tin can. I recommend finishing a carrer first in a good sub like the Sargo and then the Gato class, to get your bearings. While you do that, look around the Workshop to see what's been done so far http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=219.

I played 1.4 for a long time and had a lot of fun. I learned how to really play before I did any mods. That is a good way to go.
Once you feel like improving the game there is TMO and RSRD mods for 1.4 someplace, don't know were.

Have a good time and just ask if you need any help.

Good luck and good hunting

Thanks Fellows... Yes, I'll do what you suggest. I remember doing it like that, years ago, in SH3...

Wait, so you can only patch to 1.5 if you buy the u-boat add on?

lame

Or is 1.5 just 1.4 with the u-boats or are there changes to the oringal game itself?

The U Boat add-on is the latest and probably the last patch for the game.
There are definite improvements to the Fleet Boat game as well as adding U boats. All the new mods require V1.5

Unlike others, I say go straight to a mod like TMO or RFB. Why eat a hot dog when you can have a steak. Less bugs, 100% better graphics, realistic play. Just consider it's the way the game should have been out of the box.....who needs arcade play sinking 100K tons per patrol anyway......

Check out this link: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=219

There are a lot of mods out there and are found on this link.
All the new ones are for V1.5

The biggest are:
RFB Real Fleet Boats. This is a very realistic playing environment. There is a 1.4 version out there someplace, I don't know where.

TMO Tiger Maru Overhauled. More realistic than stock but more difficult game play. Also hase a 1.4 version someplace.

RSRD Run Silent Run Deep Will run with either of the above. Very realistic ship movements. Convoys and Task Forces plus all the real battles. Fewer targets but when you find a big TF, convoy or major battle it's worth it.
Also has a 1.4 version.

FOTRS Fall of the Rising Son. Haven't played this one but is similar to TMO but with more ship types.

Websters Game Fix Only mod . Fixes bugs and improves smaller details of the game, If you like stock this is a very good mod, doesn't change game play very much. I think this will play on 1.4 but not sure.

Armistead has a valid point but I prefer to play stock and move to mods when I've gotten a handle on the game, that way I can see what the mods did and if I like the changes or not. The mods definitely improve graphics as well as game play. You WILL eventual mod the game if you like to play it and do so sooner rather than later.
