Default GWX Ya Killin me!!

I have work to do! And I am more into this sim than I should be. My work is suffering!

Here I am going into Kiel at 2330hrs.

As I get closer to the inner harbor a schnell boat comes by. He looks and acts just the way a craft should and he plows and hops the waves I feel like I am really at sea (yes I am at sea quite a lot).

And then I see this dynamically lighting on the memorial, ok so I tell the boys to turn on the gramaphone. The sea air (wafting in RL home) is sweet, music is appropriate and I am panning with my binocs. I cannot believe how the structure is lit. How do they do it? Wonderful.

Closer in I see the bouys and guide the boat in with commands past the green marker to starboard.

Then inside I hear a banging noise - damn if it is not a bell buoy!!

C'mon this is too good I say.

Binoc panning I see a trestle or bridge, vessels, smoke stacks, a dry dock,
more and more eye candy. I cannot believe the detail, the staging inside the drydock, the vessels .. buildings, barrage ballons in the wind!!

I hear a band. I see a sub!

I can imagine the beer halls at this hour.

I shut down the gramaphone and deftly bring my boat into a pen.

Sweet.

While at sea I saw neutral Swedes with their lights directed on their flags.

Radio messages were great! real immersive!

I sunk a Polish freighter with my deck gun at night.

I have SH3 Commander. I review the patrol and the crew .. my statistics against historic figures at that time.

C'mon! This is too good. I mean how do I say it. You guys done good!!

I have to go to work now. But I sure am gonna spread the word to all my sea going pals.

Glad you like it PappyCain.

A whole lot of people worked really hard for long time to get GWX to where it is now... and I think the level of care put into it speaks for itself. (We had a lot of external contributors too that built or modded bits that may have disappeared over time... but are still included in GWX for everyone to enjoy.)

Stepping outside of myself for a moment here... even though I started the project...

... there are STILL things that just stun me every time I sail out in GWX.

Every single time I go out... it is different from the last. All the work on random and/or changing things by in-game date makes it seem to be alive.

For those that are brave enough to sail in late-war waters... GWX has a whole new set of sights and sounds....

Air raid sirens and spotlights at night STILL raise my heart-rate a bit... and just watching the bombers come in just feels desperate... and the vacuum left when they've gone... with the odd ship burning... and the wrecks from previous raids visible from place to place...

I still feel it to be a true statement that 'you could play SH3 with GWX for YEARS and still see and experience things that just blow your socks off.'

Most days, it just seems like a mountain of work that we managed to complete... but I gotta say that I'm really quite proud of what we've all done at times.

I can't say I've ever heard it described quite like that.

Yes all who have worked on should be very proud. I have been a sim pilot since the late 90's and ran AOD sim for years and the work done here is amazing. Newbies cannot fathom I am sure the staggering amount of work and manhours. Next time I am in Houston I will buy ya a few rounds. I was in the UK 2 weeks ago and came into Portsmouth at night and had the same experience in RL . Matter of fact I had many nights pulling into port at that hour and this new Gold version pulled me in. I will be in Scotland at Scapa Flow and in Germany this fall.

So back here on the coast I am thinking of bottling North Atlantic sea air, sea water, some T shirts with diesel and grease and sending them out to fellow addicts. Will come in a case with a hammer to break and open when in a panic. We have to develop a 12 step program to manage our real lives (and maintain).

TarJack, one of my mates found the HMAS Sydney II and Kormoran which made some news down there eh?

Cool! I read about that and saw it on the telly a few months ago. Was a great story about how it was found and how the pieced together what must have happened.

It still hasn't ended all speculation about the sinking of the Sydney but then anything that has a 60 year gap in first hand knowledge is sure to be hard for some to accept even when shown evidence.

Pappy, for a tiny bit extra, try the Kiel Canal Locks Mod.

I've never heard of that last one. Is it GWX only or does it work with the stock version as well?

Just kidding - I know what Red Bull is.

Yes I do!

Honest, I really do.

Stop saying those things about me!
