Hi theatreblues,

When you upgraded your copy of SH3+GWX... did you first uninstall all the old stuff using the game DVD and then delete all remaining mod files?

GWX 3.0/Gold needs to be installed over an absolutely fresh installation of SH3 patched to version 1.4b to run correctly.

You can't just install it over the top of the older version of GWX.

If you aren't absolutely sure that you installed it correctly, try those things I've mentioned above and let us know how it goes.

Just a thought, but one more gig of identical RAM would prolly do you a world of good.

Yes it is a clean install, I install from dvd then apply mod. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled mod and dvd several times and deleted all associated files, I have even checked the registry, the dvd is version 1.4. Thanks.

Well, I'm not sure what to say at this point. Both GWX and NYGM are stable mods.

Did you add any other mods on top of either GWX or NYGM?

No, no other mods applied. In originally installed GWX 3 gold and some of the mods that came with it. but when that kept crashing I uninstalled it completely and tried the NYGM mod but same thing happens CTD with no error message.

I'm sure it may seem redundant, but you might look at the GWX manual concerning installation. Maybe you missed something.

I remember once, I spent a fair bit of time looking for my car keys before leaving to go to work... only to find them in my hand.

So don't give up.

Okay... were you able to run GWX and/or NYGM for a short time and then they crashed?

If both would run for a short time and then crash... you may have a hardware problem. ... which would mean a trip to the bank.

Yes both ran ok for about 15 mins. I actually completed one mission in career mode in GWX, but when I was about to start the second mission( I think it says something along the lines of A long time ago, at top of the screen) I had a diffrent type of crash.... The screen went black and that was that, end of game.

Did you delete the "SH3" folder in your "My Documents" that contains career files? Old career files are not compatible.

Yes deleted that. The only difference to my system When I was running previous versions of GWX is I have upgraded my graphics card and soundcard. Am I right in thinking these are adequate to run the game?

Hey in that case, try updating your video driver.

I don't think your soundcard would be the issue.

I asume that you removed every last remnant of the old GFX & Sound drivers. Dependant on the make & model there are removal tools for both types of hardware. You need to revert to a point where, after a reboot, windows Plug n Play wizard notifies you of newly found hardware. Also, if you were previously using onboard (mobo) sound hardware, you need to disable this through the BIOS menu at the system post.

Lastely, it is entirely possible that you are running out af available RAM. 1GB is generally enough BUT if you have Windows managing your RAM and Page File size, it can & will crash any program that exceeds the set limits when it attempts to free up more resources for you. Set your Page File (aka Virtual RAM) to manual and at a figure around 3052 mb fixed. If possible make the page file resident on a partition other than your games location. Then reboot. To find you page file settings, navigate - Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Advanced.

Sometimes that crash is not always a crash. First time i loaded up GWX 3 it took a very long time to load it still takes a very long time to load but the first time i was about to hit that reset button during loading the red line you sit and stare at while waiting or is that just me Stopped and the red light on my pc stopped for a good couple of minutes I thought yep shes crashed, wait i'll give it more time and went of to make a coffee came back and game was started. So prepare to sit it out, but then again my pc aint some superduper rig.

My cpu is same as yours except I have 2gigs ram and 7800gtx card. I think more ram would help and sometimes ive found changing graphic drivers - going back to a older driver works for certain games

First of all thanks for all your help guys. I downloaded graphics card update and everything seemed to be ok but.... now I have got a SH3.exe application error. Goes as follows The instruction at"0x10016a27" referenced memory at "0x00000000" the memory could not be "written" Click ok to terminate. Any suggestions?? at the time I was submerged and attempting to raise periscope. Thanks.
