Playing no super mod, unless you count RUB/Harbor Traffic, the following just happened.
I just set up a new career in SH3 Commander to start on September 1st, 1944 in the 33rd Flotilla based in Flensburg. I took the boat out for a shakedown cruise, without first adding any new crew or upgrading any equipment. This went fine (except for the diesels only giving a top speed of 12 knots, but that's OK - I have malfunctions and sabotage enabled). After the cruise was over, I exited from SH3 Commander without doing any crew changes or upgrades, rolled back SH3 Commander, didn't make any changes to files, started up SH3 Commander, started the same career, upgraded crew and added some new equipment, and left on my second patrol, also intending it to be a shakedown. After the game loads, I get a dialog box saying "The base was changed to Bergen", and I don't hear the band. I go to the bridge and its pitch dark, with no building lights. I look at the nav map and find that I have been relocated to Lat/Long 0/0. I check the Flotilla.cfg file and find that the 33rd Flotilla has only one base: Flensburg. My briefing (<F8> screen) says "Return to Base: Flensburg". My previous patrol in a different career had been out of Lorient, with the message "The base was changed to Bergen" also showing up. In that case the base change made sense, as I think I was also transferred to the 7th Folotilla, and its base does get moved to Bergen in the Flotilla.cfg file. That sub was sunk. Anybody have any knowledge as to what happened here, and if this is likely to be a one-time glitch or an ongoing problem? Should I go to Flensburg, Begen, or hit the <Esc> key? Since the base change thing seems to be a holdover from a previous patrol, a flag to change base must be stored somewhere. Anybody know where to find it so I can change it?

I had something similar happen to me, after that no matter what save I reloaded or even if I started a new career I was always dumped at lat 0 long 0. In the end the only thing that fixed it was a complete wipe and reinstall of everything.

Damn my aging brain. I had this happen over a year ago and I found what the cause was by either asking about it here in the forum or by searching the forum pages. But I'm damned if I can remember the answer now, keep looking through the archives here, hopefully someone will have the answer for you before too long.
