Default A couple grayscale Bismarck shots using camera mod

I was messing around with the camera mod by CCIP and took a couple shots of Bismarck firing. I tried to make it look like the historical photo of Bismarck firing. I used IrfanView and the Adobe 8BF filter plugins to adjust the grayscale. It's my first real picture edits so bear with me.

Nice - and finally someone who stopped abusing the narrow-angle cameras for BB shots, too

Does remind me of the actual bismarck shots - even with the 'blacked-out' muzzle flash (I think I saw that in one of the actual photos of it - can't find where though. I think it was because the flash was so intense)

Here is the photo I was referring to:

I got this from the same site:

This is the most well known photo of the Bismarck and one the most famous of World War II. It was taken from the Prinz Eugen between 0602 and 0609 hours. By then, the Hood had already been sunk and the Bismarck hit on her bows. The after turrets "Cäsar" and "Dora" are firing against the Prince of Wales in one of the last salvoes of the battle. Don't get confused, it's not at night, the blast of the guns has darkened the photo.

Nice shots!

To make your shots look older, you might want to try these things:

- a small amount of Gaussian blur. You used a lot of "noise", so that can look pixellated. A touch of blur will get rid of the blockiness.
- desaturate your colors. You have too much range in your gamma, i.e. your black pixels are too dark and your light pixels are too light. This is how I would fix it:
a) use the curves to adjust your gamma. My version of Photoshop is old, so yours might be different, but try: Image/Adjust/Levels. There should be a graph showing you the distribution of pixels. Click on the triangles that are on the bottom of the graph. The black triangle controls the number of black pixels, the white triangle controls the white pixels, the grey one controls the gamma. Play with moving those triangles around the graph to get a more "washed-out" image".
b) pick a nice airbrush and dial the intensity to about 5%. Choose the "Burn" tool, and burn the area in and around your ship. Also burn the very edges of your image.
c) choose the "Dodge" tool and dodge the area inbetween the ship and the edges.
- maybe add a little bit of camera motion and/or film dust if you have those plug-ins.
- add a very small amount of sepia into your picture. A bit of sepia or blue makes B&W photos look more convincing.

E-mail me at twelvefield@hotmail.com if you have any other questions, or send me your e-mail and I will send you the .psd of what I am suggesting so you can see the difference.

Here, I just finished what I was saying. Look at this:

I mostly desaturated your picture. I added the dodge and burn. The ship is very pixelated, so I had problems with that, so I cheated and used a paper texture (sort of similar to what German photogrophers used) to cover the pixels a bit. I blurred the picture some, and cropped it to get rid of some of the blacker pixels.

I hope this helps! I'd sure like to see more of your shots!
