Default HELP Again - Seem stuck at end of Mission

Damn - FIXED: As I guess everyone here knows, Abandon Mission = I have completed my mission and I'm ready to come home to cold beer and friendly frauleins, NOT 'abandon' as in the dictionary definition of 'give up' GRRrrrrrrrr.

OK, sorry for sending out so many SOSs but I'm just stuck.

Taking the first exam, Navigation. Completed all the Primary Objectives and it has been 20+ minutes of sitting on the surface bobbing up and down. Checking Orders I see all objectives completed - but no further contact with BdU.

ESC only offers me the option of Abandon Mission.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated as I'm totally stuck - bobbing up and down and up and down and my stomach is getting a bit queasy.

Until I get this figured out SH3 is a closed book.

Hey,

I'm pretty sure that when in a training mission, single mission or in the vicinity of enemy ships you get that abandon mission option.

The training and single missions are no big deal.

Career is what matters. You should only get the abandon mission or abandon career options when ending a mission in the middle of the sea at 100% realism. In the career mode, if using 100% realism you must sail back to port.

At port you get a "dock at port" option

If at lower than 100% realism you get an "end mission" option in career mode.

This is normal.

Thanks that is helpful. The key thing that was messing me up was the word choice of 'abandon' which means 'to give up' not 'mission accomplished and ready to move on.'

Reading your post I'm wondering. If I'm in the middle of a mission out at sea and it gets to be midnight RL, can I save that mission in the middle and come back later or will saving result in ending the mission and returning to port.

Hmm, I seem to be mixing two things up here. Can I:
1) Save a mission - in the middle of the mission
2) Then abandon the mission to close out the game for the night
3) Then come back and reload the mission - in the middle of the mission - and continue my mission, without being returned to base in the middle of my mission?

Assuming you mean outside the training area - yes.

During a mission, you can hit 'escape' and then choose your option. Save, continue (after saving), save and exit.

If you just save and then continue you will be returned to the mission. This can be handy if you're contemplating something stupid. If it doesn't work you can reload the saved mission and try another way.

If it's getting late, save and exit will save the mission at this point and send you to the main menu, where you can exit the game.

It's a couple of weks since I've played so the actual option names may be wrong. but when you read them they should be obvious.

During training missions and single missions, 'abandon' just means finish. You'll get a screen showing the actual result and you can then end.

enjoy.

Thanks a LOT! That info is hugely helpful.

What you just told me resembles the way most games work, but I have read things that suggested otherwise and confused me.

Remember not to save games within 50km of land or objects (planes & ships) or while submerged because of the ctd risk. When you are about to save submerge and perform a manual hydrophone check to ensure that no ships are around. When you are satisfied that nothing is near you surface & save your game. This won't totally eliminate the chance of a ctd but it will reduce the odds of one happening.
