They are the basic TypeII early war electric torpedoes. I set them for 0 depth and impact detonation because of the manufacturing flaws they had in real life. I open doors I and III; I let them fly. I have most realism stuff on, but I like the free move camera to watch the show. So I jump in the camera and follow the torpedoes underwater. About halfway to the target, one of my torpedoes explodes!

I can only guess that the huge waves messed up the torpedo somehow and caused it to detonate.
There's a sort of 'bug' with the torpedo Impact/Magnetic switch: if you select Salvo fire and then switch from Magnetic to Impact then it will only switch one of the torpedos to Impact - the rest of your Salvo will all use Magnetic detonators (and will therefore be prone to premature detonations, especially in rough weather). If you want to fire a salvo and make them all Impact then you have to select each tube individually and set each one to Impact before switching to Salvo fire.

In fact I found that those "early" 1939/40 careeers are spoiling me to a level of carelessness and overestimation of capabilities which put my DiD career to an end almost all of the time once the tide shifts and the hunter becomes the hunted.
How true.

I've come to appreciate a whole new level of caution in 1943. Trying to balance caution with agressiveness in a DiD career is interesting.

I've had 3 boats shot out from under me already in 1943, one in the Caribbean and two in the Med, the last one in 10/43. (I've come to loathe hedgehogs.)

My latest career is in 4/43 out of Bordeaux. I'm waiting with mixed feelings on resuming a career in the Med in 11/43.

Thank you sir! You were 100% correct in that my spread torps were not being set on the proper detonation pistol... Now I will manually set each torp individually.

Why did you waste thousands of Reichmarks on those Eels?Use the deck gun,its cheaper and more pleasing to the eye!If the crew wont man the gun, force them at Luger point!Cowardice in the face of the enemy is punishable by death(use the all weather gun mod)

Good work. I too am far, far too persistent. I'm in 1943 now and absolutely amazing luck and good harbour raiding skills have netted me what's referred to as a "metric **** ton" of tonnage over the span of 25 patrols, but my first three patrols were very similar to this: preservering despite the sea gods being jackasses and my torpedoes being useless.

Got very fond of the 88mm deck gun on my VIIB early on.
