Default A welcome and a question!

Hello all new Captin stepping aboard the deck here.

Must say this is an amazing game even though I'm playing it on a four year old system. The information on these forums is incredible so thank you all for the info I've already absorbed lol.

So on with my question and sorry for being a noob - have started a career in a S-boat but I'm having real trouble in keeping the batteries charged. Been asigned to patrol Luzon Straight there are loads of aircraft patrols which are keeping me submerged a lot of the time in the daylight hours and while running on the surface the batteries aren't recharging fully.

Is there any particular speed or trick that helps in charging them or is it a case of just staying surfaced as long as possible? Have tried clicking on the recharge battery button but doesn't seem to do much!

Thanks for the help in advance all and sorry for the long post!

The ancient S-Boats only had two diesel engines so when you are recharging, you have only one engine doing that and one driving the ship. Consequently, they are slower to recharge than the later US models with four diesels. Your best bet is to try to avoid using the batteries any more than necessary. I realize that's difficult because the stock version of the games throws way more aircraft at you than were present historically. Some of the mods address this aerial avalanche problem.

Oh....and welcome aboard!

ugh, Bubba, them S-Boats take a TON of time to recharge them batteries - but I've had over months and a year had a ton of fun giving them a try since resources are SO LIMITED for anything on a S-Boat. I consider skippering one of them harder to learn than manual targeting - a lesson in that for a later day skipper.

Never, EVER, let an S-Boat battery fall down to 25% battery reserve juice. If you do, you'll need 24-36 hours on the surface to get 'em back to 100%.

Since you are new to it, NEVER, ever, cruise more than 1/3 speed from point A to point B - surfaced or below the waves. Save the higher speeds for when you have in sight a target, otherwise you are going to run out of "motion lotion" [fuel] before you get back to a friendly base to refuel/re-stock.

'nuther thing, Bubba ... as you head out on your 1st patrol[s] your starting base WILL BE over run and captured by the enemy and you can not go back there. Plan on making a LONG haul to an Australian base for overall planning - watch your fuel reserves so you can 'git 'thar.

Your friendly refueling/re-stocking bases have a blue anchor tipped at a 45 degree angle - I forget which direction they tip towards but if you unzoom the main map, you can see 'em.

2nd to the last thing to do -
When do you patrol, if you see the enemy, put that s.o.b. on the bottom of the deep blue Ocean with some well planned torpedoe shots.

Last thing you need to do with that S-Boat:

HAVE LOTs of FUN playing the game. Them S-Boats have a ton of difficult challenges and I enjoyed every minute of it. It's the type of game were you have time to THINK instead of quick knee jerk decisions.

Quit monkeying around with the recharge icon in the game. Leave it alone. Its default setting is to recharge the battery - it just takes a ton of game time to so - more than 12 hours!

Enjoy Bubba, Welcome aboard! Sink them ALL!!!

Just a slight correction for the blue anchored bases. The tilted anchor is your home port, the anchors standing straight up are only for refueling and reloading your torpedoes and ammo.

Welcome to SUBSIM.

Thanks dude, you are right on all points.

Was just trying to drown the new guy in wet, syrupy kisses on the welcome wagon and lost control of my memories [mammaries?].

I am too busy keeping them from flopping and forgot how the flags went flopping.

The speed I use on the S-Boat for cruiseing is 9 to 10 knts. No more then 3 knts submerged.

I gave S-Boats a shot once, fun, but I liked my high-tech boats more...
