Default Desperation at Barents Sea Loiter

I becoming crazy with this mission. When i can barely pick the kuznetsov with the towed array, some surface ship is already pinging me with active sonar. And the akula shoots its Stallions with pinpoint accuracy. The only possible way to damage the surface ships is with TASMs, but the ships' sams shoot down every missile i fire. Once, and only once, i managed to hit the DDG with a tomahawk, the other 11 were destroyed

You must knock down the defense ships with torpedoes first. Or at least scatter the group. Only thing they can do against torpedo is run the hell away from it.

Don't fear active sonar that much, if you turn toward the pinging platform and stay on the border of your torpedo range, they shouldn't be able to detect you.

The Akula could complicate things. If you could knock it first (or again, at least make it solve torpedo evasion instead of your solution), it would be all easier.

Don't bother with TASMs .. those are good only for unarmed ships or standalone ships. They have no change against formed group.
Harpoons are a bit better, but not really much.
By firing missiles you only expose yourself. However you can save them for killing ships which are already damaged.

Yeah .. that mission is tough. I don't remember if I ever done it, but I for sure tried many times

This is one of my favorite missions! The good news is that you can shoot the surface ships with your torpedoes from further away than they can detect you. Torpedoes are your best bet in this mission. It's also important to use your periscope. Sonar, except for active intercept, isn't especially useful in this mission, or in shallow water in general.

ASCMs aren't really the best way to play this scenario. I use them, but you have to be really shrewd about it. I shoot before I see them using the external targeting information they give you. In that case you get two free shots from beyond detection range. The first with your 16 (12 VLS + 4 tube launched) TASMs and the second with 4 Harpoons. You can take these with impunity provided you "shoot and scoot" clearing the datum after launch. The earlier you shoot the better. In all likelyhood you will not take out the CV. If you use them and destroy anything, it'll almost always be an escort.

I also wouldn't worry so much about the Akula. If you seem him, you see him, but that's not really your objective. It's more important to stay focused on what you're doing than to sink everything in the ocean.

I hope this helps.
