Dick O Kane Ship ID?
I was watching "Rockinrobins" tutitorial on the DOK method for enemy ship engagement. After commenting on it being early in the morning, he rasied his periscope and without consulting the regognition manual indentified the tanker. He then used the regognitoin manual to get the ships draft. Am I missing something? Is there a key that auto identifies the targets? I find myself always frantically searching through the manual, identifing the target then inputting it into the PK. Intresting video though. I also downloaded the Sonor method "By God" It is good to see someone else struggling thru some of same situations I find myself in.

If you're in periscope view, bring up the recog. manual, you can pause the game, and flip through the manual.
It's kind of a cheat, but hey, if you find yourself in a pickle, it's a great way to take your time. No, none of the TDC stuff works in pause. I think it was put this way on purpose.

After you've played the game for a while, you can recog most ship types without looking at the manual, especially for the common ones.
Heck, I can remember the DRAFT of most of these without looking it up! :-D |

I remember that he was watching the target and without any prompt from the toolbar icons the actual name of the ship appeared. I wonder if he did some editing to the video........Otto

Actually that was a trick question. In the constant bearing attacks, Dick O'Kane, John P Cromwell or vector analysis attacks it is not necessary to identify the target at all, which is a MAJOR selling point of those three methods of giving the enemy a watery grave.
You're setting up on an empty spot in the ocean. It is of no concern what kind of target occupies that space at the same time as one of your torpedoes just happens to be there unless you find you're torpedoed the USS Enterprise. Then you might have some explaining to do later. ![]() But for the purposes of hitting your target you have no need to know anything more about your target than that it flies the Japanese flag! Otto, you got your siggy back! One thing I never do, for better or worse, is edit my videos. They are real time from beginning to end with no cuts, inserts or splices, either to the sound or video. Whatever happens happens and I shoot until I get the thing in one piece in a way that I think will teach something (even at my own expense!) in an entertaining way. OH, in the Dick O'Kane video I created the mission so I knew it was a tanker. I cheated. ![]()

I've been useing the Dick O'kane method for a while now, and I haven't looked back. As far as ship identification goes, a little trick I use is determining the placement of the ship's funnel. A funnel positioned in the stern of the ship is a Tanker. Funnels towards amidship indicates a freighter. Half the battle is over. All you need to do now is determine what type of Tanker or Freighter you're dealing with.
