I'm playing GWX3.0 with OLC Gold and LRT Full. Excellent.
Just a question about the destroyers. I've been evading a single destroyer for about 3 hours (game time) this evening. He's made countless runs over me. It's hugely entertaining and tense but do these guys EVER run out of depth charges? Is finite ammo for AI units programmed? Well done with the AI, it's near impossible to escape once they get above you. I won't be attempting a second run on convoys anymore. Fire and hide I think from now on.

1knot and try to get to deep water. Even then it's a crap shoot.
3 badguys under the best of conditions is a tough one. |

He should be close to about out of DC's. Even after there out they will still circle above you for a time.

I had heard once that the DDs carry about 200 DCs, but may vary from DD to DD.
But they will run out of them eventually.

Each DC rack is set to 40 DC's as I recall.
But if a unit has 5 DC Racks? That would come out to 200 DC's. Now if it has Y-guns and K-guns also? ![]() |

Just encountered a large convoy with 5 bad guys. Being brave
I told them to kiss my stern and then buggered out of there. I felt good about living to fight another day.

before, i dont live after first encounter..... but now..die,it´s very difficult to me although 3 or more bad guys try to catch me.... the key:... dive deep, deep deep... if you think that you are too deep... dive more deep even.... always at 1 or 2 knots...(under 100 rpm of engine).... to turn to 45º to left and right...but always away off convoys... and they soon feel that has escort convoy and leave you.

Well my experience is that there's a lot of variance in their skill levels even later on in the war, and the sea state has a huge effect as well. For a case in point I refer to my last patrol, in that my 1st sinking during the gig was achieved after succeeding in sneaking into a convoy from the front flank with the point escort cluelessly passing me at 500yds... or less! And this in early 1943 in foul weather...
But _then_ I also encountered a lone DD with an ace complex in good(ish) weather later when cruising on the U.S Eastern Seaboard waters near New York. The bugger was sharp as a tack and fast; I crash-dove and started manouvering, but he nevertheless acquired a solid contact and kept it, making my job of shaking him a very tedious one indeed! Took me 3 hours and a depth of 254m(!) to finally get in the clear ![]() So yep, they do come in various levels of having a clue even after 1942 IMHO. |
