I can't say I hate dell. I'm am pissed off about the screwup they did to me. Aside from that all my dell products always work great. My current XPS 730 is awesome gaming machine. Ok true its no alienware stuff but still damb good.
![]() Anyhow they ask for my feedback on a survey to the customer support help and I answered very honestly hehehehe. ![]() I don't think they will like it. ![]() |

Alienware is nothing to write home about. Same stuff, same innards at an inflated price.

Ya usual brand name nonsense + a bunch of flash and glitter is pretty much all Alienware is.

Anyhow this is one of the ways of getting around the whole ATI mobility problem with lack of updated drivers. http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and make your own hardware specific drivers.
BTW this is an issue with all ATI mobility video drivers, ATI can't release reference drivers for them as many of the oem makers refused to allow them to (not just dell). So its not a problem with dell per say but with every one of them that uses ATI cards. |

I actually bought an Ailenware machine when they were run by a few guys in a workshop and was really ailenware. The video card fried within a month, they dident have a direct replacement so they sent me the next model upgrade no charge, then that one fried. They sent me ANOTHER upgraded card. It was a fine machine and a hell of a performer in its day. Alas now it sits in a closet. But if you want a 'real' computer get in touch with these guys...

Subman, one favor to ask. Drink a beer and turn on the webcam when you call customer service. I love a good show!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hell, I think we should make a reality TV show based on subman dealing with dell customer service. ![]()

-S PS. I would like to point out that I have never once had these issues with anything else than Dell, and the occasional Sony. Toshiba, IBM, Lenovo (even though I hate Chinese crap, they make a decent laptop), and even HP do not have these issues. Can't say much for Gateway. I've never purchased Gateway for personal nor for company so I cannot vouch for them. |

Not sure what you mean by "old system". The laptop I'm running is pretty much dell state of the art and its running an ATI card (mobility radeon hd 3670 512mb), and ATI doesn't offer reference drivers for mobility cards (Nvidia at least does however). So the link I posted is the way to get around that issue. Otherwise your stuck with waiting for your oem to provide updates (and that goes for all oems using ati cards).

I still think Dell has put together a package that meets the need of a PC in every home. In the cooperate world its still best business practice to use dell and rotate them out every 3 years or as the software demands.
I tried to build comparable systems for the office, but could not compete with the final price with all of the software installed (windows - office - adobe - ect) We even brought in outside sources and they said the same thing. I really have never had to deal with graphics drivers or any drivers for that mater on any workstations in general. But I have had to use the driver disk to restore a system or two when HD failure or other problems have occured. We never buy the low end Dell systems, I made sure of this because they are just too low grade in my opinion. The purchase of the higher end system lends to a longer life span from what I have seen. |

NVidia makes mobility drivers. It just doesn't work on non-nvidia proprietary hardware. The point being, this is not NVidia spec hardware. It is Dell borrowing a GPU from NVidia and making a non-standard (probably lacking in features too) vid proc. -S |
