However, we have discussed this question before a few years ago and my recollection is that the conventional wisdom says that IJN torpedoes are not painted i.e. they are left bare steel. You will however see some painted torpedoes; the possibilities are those with their “warhead” painted black (red?), white or with a red and white striping. Those are supposed to be practice torpedoes and the coloration is suppose to help in their recovery.

The “red” torpedoes in your photos are rusting torpedoes.
