When I ran XP, I needed Omega drivers to get a better frame rate.
If I understand it (and I might not) the quad core has 4 cpus, but the game is written for one, so it only uses one and the other three go on vacation. If so, the speed of your cpu may be a factor. The only solutions I could suggest would be to add another GB of RAM, check out the Omega drivers for your video card (which is?), turn down the particles in your video options, consider a new video card, and try AlacrityPC to free up RAM. And as noted by Task Force, change mods; Two frame rate killers are 16Km atmosphere and Sea Floor; there are some others also. And Welcome aboard, Matey

Im only running gwx3. vid card is a new one the hd 4870 is £200 card so its not a cheap one. have got 6 gig of ram but 32 bit xp only see 3 & half.
Could be the quad core only useing one core in this game. All drivers are up to date. but like i said i can run most game on max no problem. Will try different drivers. Thanks |

Vista has a bad reputation, but I think now that is unwarranted. It might be to your advantage to try to up grade to Vista so you can use all your RAM.
In the meantime, try AlacrityPC and see if it helps

The newer Ati cards (38xx/48xx) perform better with Vista. Vista x64 will get you the whole 6 gigs of ram rather than 3.25.
