USS Becuna Exterior (Warning - tons o' pics)

Took my annual pilgrimage to the USS Becuna today, thought I'd share some pictures....interior shots to follow.....

This is the best shape I've ever seen her in. The folks taking care of her and doing a great job. And, being that I went on a Wednesday afternoon on a snowy, cold day, I had the entire boat to myself. Didn't see another soul as I wandered around. Took my time, and had a ball..

I love the Balao-class.

What's that Great War-era vessel alongside her though?

edit-nvm It's the Olympia. Wish I'd had a chance to visit.

That be Admiral Dewey's Olympia! Toured her too. Amazing......

Yeah, so I saw. Beautiful ship, though. I've always loved the justting prow used at the time. It makes the ship seem more solid, somehow.

I can tell you that walking around her gives that impression too. What an amazing boat. And the space on board after crawling around on the Becuna!

I have some pics from Olympia I'll post after dinner....

She has the guppy conversion like the Torsk. Her bow has been modified?

It has. She was following Russian subs late in her life. She's seen many roles....

The Torsk's bow was clipped also by about 3 feet I believe. She still holds that same line design as it was in WW2. Becuna has been rounded and is straight down. Basically a removal of the surface boat type bow to a more modern submarine bow. Of course now the bows are dome shaped. Interesting!

Again, great pics. You are right Becuna looks in fine shape.

I haven't been on the Olympia since the mid 70's when I was a kid with my family. I think I still have a photo of me standing in Dewey's footseps on the bridge. What a great ship. I could be wrong, but I don't think there is another ship from that era still around in the USA.
