Default Water Splash Height - Can it be changed?

Hi guys,

One thing I've often thought about when playing SH3 is the height of the water splash from shell fire or the deck gun - it just seems too short.

From many of the photo's and videos I've seen a near miss often resulted in a water jet that towered over a ship, yet in SH3 they often only reach about half the height of a vessel.

For example, take a look at this youtube clip of the Kriegsmarine firing on a ship. The water spout is much higher than we experience in-game (look from about 40 seconds into it):

I was wondering if it's possible to increase the height of the 'splash'? :hmm:

Cheers,
Px3000

It is almost certainly possible with SH3ditor. It's probably controlled by one or more of the particles/effects files.

jepp, thats right. i modified it long ago in 2005 and made many experiments with it. the torpedohit was my field of interest. the splash is to small and the behavior of the water is not realistic.

watch these torpedohits!

and watch the behavior of the water...

From the youtube vid those look like bigger shells than 88s. Like - whatever that ship had going, they were probably a stag bigger than the deck gun right? But yea - it's weird that the shell height doesn't seem to scale with the caliber. On the other hand, sometimes when merchant shells come in at me the splash goes way-high - like it seems enormous.

So, has anyone experience in modding this? I would prefer such a mod. In my opinion the torpedo splashes should be higher and especially more wide.

I would support in testing.

All you need to do is grab S3D,
open the particals and materials dats,
follow the ID's and adjust settings.
Once you play with the settings?
You'll figure it all out.
