Cant say Im really supprised.
I found Circuit city to be arrogant and inflexible they felt they were the 'be all to end all' of electronics retail. Their prices were not that good, their staff were snooty, and support ![]() Just try to call a local store to check on availablity of a product... good luck. Trying to be a 'high end' hoity toity botique in a sluggish economy is not a good buisness model. |

Well, lets look at some things other than attitude, etc. Lets look at outfits such as Best Buy who basically squished CompUSA. Let's take a look at Tigerdirect and Newegg. Since I found these two, I do not go by Circuit City anymore, not Best Buy that much anymore. Internet purchases is used more widely now. I know it has doubled in my house and especially in the computer parts, etc.

and what retail stores there are who are in competition with circuit city generally are capable of offering lower prices. lets face it - retail mark up on most cases is over 40% ![]() i know they have a lot of costs to cover but thats rediculous.

When it comes to computer components, I almost always order from Newegg. If I need a monitor NOW, or a new printer NOW, I go to Office Depot. If my PSU explodes (has happened to me twice in the last 10 years) and I can't wait 3 days for a new one to be shipped, I go to a local computer store that builds computers on site. I never go to Best Buy for computer components. I never went to CompUSA for them.
I had similar experiences to SteamWake with the Circuit City here. It was convenient for the location, but I didn't like dealing with them.

CompUSA was a bit of a different store. They were more diverse in the components for computers. It was like Newegg but the parts were there to see and touch. I could get wires and cables. Wire ties, clips, ends, etc. I do miss CompUSA. Best Buy and Circuit City never did get as deep as CompUSA with special items and a diverse section of vid card, sound cards, you name it. THey closed the one in my neighborhood.
CompUSA is really just Tigerdirect but with different colors on their website. ![]()

Starbucks will probably suffer a similar fate....
4 bucks for a latte when you can go accross the street to the doughnut shop and get one for 1 buck. :hmm: Oh about Compusa you ever try to return an item there? There return policy was basically "you open it you own it". |

Why do they call it a latte? Because it costs a lot-ay!

An appropriate article since we are on the subject:
-S ![]() It wasn't just because it was closer to my house. Or because it undercut Best Buy by at least a buck or two on new movies and CDs. No, I genuinely liked Circuit City better. Circuit City was always more honest. After they ditched commission in 2003, employees (rightfully) had a chip on their shoulder and didn't bother hiding it. When they mowed down waves of more experienced staff in 2007 for cut-rate employees who'd as soon as work there as McDonald's, those guys never made any bones about the fact they worked at a second-rate big box, tossing your wares into a bag and pulling out that mile-long receipt with a sigh. The stores? Wildly disorganized, ignoring the kind of arcane science that dictates the layouts of Best Buy. **** was slung on shelves, sections divvied up however the hell the manager felt like it. Sure, corporate contemplated a more Best Buy-like approach, but we all know it didn't take. I'm glad, because it would be lipstick on a three-legged pig: You like the pig because it has three legs—trying to make it pretty just makes it fake and awkward. But that's what I liked about Circuit City. It was honest: Honest about what it was, who worked there, and how much they cared about you. If an employee actually did wander over to help you, it was because they were a genuinely helpful guy—God knows, not because Circuit City had a culture of helping customers. Best Buy is contrived and pushy and yellow and filled with too many people. Circuit City was like the dirt mall of big box electronics stores—dirtier, flagrantly neglectful, but more genuine, and hey, cheaper too. I will miss it. |

I find it funny how this is the one huge closing that has little to do with the economy, during these times.
