I was thinking somemore about SHIII and all the Silent Hunter IV effects being ported. Well we know that SH IV was built on SH III, A revamped SH III if you will. So would it not just be easier to just import SHIII the complete sim into SH IV GWX files and all?

Well, just because SHIV was built off of SHIII doesn't necessarily mean the files and structure and etc is all the same. The developers might have added on various, err, modules? and suchnot that might make SHIII incompatible with SHIV.
Or maybe not, I don't know. ![]()

File structure is similar but different
If you know what I mean You could just take all the SH3 ships - change the TGAs to DDS's and drop into SH4 They will show - as others have done - but the SH4 units are far superior to the SH3 ones in modelling\damage modelling and skins would be a shame to waste that by not reworking them to match the SH4 units Campaign is totally different - split by years and locations and referenced on other files Missions are not assigned from a list in the flotilla cfg but each mission is written like a single mission now is so you can guess how many of those you want Player subs from SH3 are a lower poly count and not as good a model as the SH4 ones - why drop an old unit in when you can take the time to rework to look as good as the new ones ? Upgrades are different and not as easy to do IIRC the devs said SH4 would be easier to mod than SH3 Nope Takes time to work it all out but isnt easier - different yes So no you couldnt just pick up the GWX files and drop them into SH4 without some major work |
