Here's something I wanted to throw out, for the sake of realism. Doubtless I am sure that this can be modded. I will repost this in the mod workshop.
When commisioning a new boat, I think that you should be starting with a largely fresh crew, albeit with a core of experienced NCO's and maybe a couple of officers. You should have to start in NYC or SF and bring your boat to the theatre; transit time, leave and shakedown exercises factored in (i.e. fast forward three months of time). I'm thinking of replicating that myself in the game by replacing many of my old salts with newbies every time I get a new boat. Any thoughts?

Once my crew start looking strange, (6 Kaleuns in one boat?!) I replace them. Its a pain in the arse to without SH3 commander. Maybe you should wait for someone to make SH4 commander?
