Oh My Goodness !!
So... long story short-> I had to reinstall SHIV for teh 4th time and this time I decided why not start out at Realism 77. Unlimited Fuel, Automatic Targeting but all the other stuff set to realistic. Okay... just had my first encounter with an airplane on the surface during the day. I've learned my lesson. We lived through it without damage but STILL !! It's nuts.. observation scope, front deck gun, Bridge.. jumping all over the place to try and find out where that blasted plane is coming from so I can reposition the direction of the sub properly. oh my goodness.. this is amazing !! |

Okay, I'm scared to use the Time Compression now. (laugh)
And I never never never find myself up on the surface during the daylight. Only up to get a fresh breath and straight back down again. This is amazing!! I think I'm ready to go get an anchor tattoo now. Heh. |

I tend to stay on the surface as much as possible, even during the day. While cruising, I dive only when radar detects an aircraft and it will come within roughly 10nm of my boat.
Fuel efficiency governs all. Although, in fairness, there are some areas where there's no point in being on the surface during the day due to the CONSTANT contact being made with aircraft. Everyone once in a great while I get so pissed off that I stay on the surface and assign my best gunner to blot an aircraft out of the sky. So far, so good. |
