Has anyone ever attempted a conning tower like this one on U-53? I've done a bit of searching on the forum and haven't come up with anything. It's a VIIB from the 7th Flotilla, operational at the onset of war.
Any help on bringing this beautiful tower to SHIII would be much appreciated. ![]() Happy Hunting. ![]()

i guess you could paste an imperial eagle on the texture of the conning tower. it will take many tries tho.
edit: it CAN be done: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...15&postcount=3 try asking privateer ![]()

Do it as a simple 3D model and add it to the dat
with proper UV mapping and such. |

this is just a modified Turm7b_1_hd.dat, notested with GWX, but i think it works with all Super_Mods. |

Thank you nautilus, this look great!
I switched it in to my gwx2.1 install. I think its not based on this supermod's turm7b.dat. But it should be compatible anyway, no problems so far. At first look the only missing thing is the rotating DF antenna, which I wont complain at all! The turm skin and the eagle emblem look awesome! ![]() After reading the thread this morning, I gave a shot at modelling a simple emblem to add to the turm.dat. Being a noob in modelling, gave up after 2 hours. But this mod will be an example to at least how it was added inside the dat. There could be interesting additions to the turms of other boats too, i shall study more to learn this stuff. Thanks again nautilus! ![]()

Good stuff, nautilus42. It looks great
![]() Too bad for the RDF antenna in GWX, I've grown quite fond of it. Hopefully someone will fix it. ![]()

nautilus, thanks for this. It looks really good.
![]() It's a shame there seems to be compatibility issues with the RDF antenna in GWX2.1, but I'll happily take the eagle in its place and hope that both will be made compatible later. I've got zero experience with UV mapping or anything more than making my own emblems, so this is a huge help. Thanks.

Yes the Eagle is not a simple emblem, painted in the tower. It is a 3D bronze plaque that was fixed there in PRE-WAR U-Boats. Once the hostilities started, the eagle was removed from all U-Boats as it was felt that with it the CT could be spotted and above all, the nationality of the UBoat identified easier.
Note in the picture posted in the first post that the U-Boat has also the number painted in the CT sides, a very giveaway indicator of it being pre-war. Nevertheless, I concur in that the emblem is awesome, and -historical accurancy aside- it looks too damn good to simply let it go ![]()
