Default Captain's Diary Mod?

Is there a Captain's diary Mod? Something like a journal that we can type in during our patrols to put down our thoughts, observations, and actions?

This would be handy for the long patrols an people who like to play real time.

Perhaps going to the Captain's bunk and then a journal appears to type with a font that would look like handwriting.

Just a thought.

Hi !

You can do this with SH3-Commander, but NOT during Mid-Patrol, only AFTER each Patrol you can edit via SH3-Commander the Log-Book !

Another solution is unknown to me !

Best regards,
Magic

Every Kaleun here on SubSim is dying for such a mod that would enable people to write Logs while sitting in the captains-bunk!

Looks like something to add to my checklist. I see shortcut conflicts in commands_en would be a problem.

People have been trying to make that one happen for six years now. So far the post-patrol editor in SH3 Commander is the only way. I write everything down longhand and type it up afterward, just like they did in real life.

i think it is possible to keep a running log on a spreadsheet, save it in the correct format and then import it into the patrol log and personnel file. I assume that you would alt-tab SHIII to desktop to make the entries. If one had a suitable image on the desktop, this would help keep the spirit of the game while you did this.
I have never done this, as I use SailorSteve's method to make rather meager entries.
instructions are in the help file of the patrol editor.

Hmm. Both your methods seem to be good. But they have some drawbacks.

SailorSteve's makes the writing and the typing a double the work sort of thing though this was how it was in real life, I would have to be typing up my entries of my last patrol before I go on my next patrol.

While Irish1958's method would require the game to stop in order to alt-tab. Unless one runs in windowed mode, which isn't always ideal. This method might be the method I take.

But it looks like these are the only ways of remedying this. So I guess it's all we got.

Another option might be to set up a second monitor with a text editor open.
I guess that's going a little far though.

I always write out longhand and type it up too, but my God that's a labour-intensive way of doing things.

You'll get no sympathy from me. That's what I do every time.

I also stop every day at the same time to hand-write a position report, which involves using the little mini-grid on the Nav-Map pull-down to get my 4-digit grid position (AM3275 etc), and include my course and speed. I then get the weather report, use a die roll to juggle the wind speed a little, convert the wind speed to the true speed according to the Seasonal adjustment in Commander and then use a Beaufort chart to get the Beaufort state and wave height.

Sink ships? What are those?

Sailor Steve forgot to mention that for recreation (R&R) he goes to the dentist, and then relaxes by reading the phone book.

Nor me, lol, I spend 2-3 hours outside the game in between patrols just fine-tuning the logs and making crew management decisions.

Interesting.
Are those reports stored somewhere other than thread " Tell us whats happening in your current campaign" ( http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=151090 )?
