Hi all,
In an effort to give the ol machine a bit more grunt i recently upgraded my processor from an intel celeron 11@2.8Ghz to a pentium 4@3.0Ghz. Now SH111 won`t run at all. It`s crashing and freezing all over the place. I can install the game but it wont run even in vanilla form. anyone come across this type of problem before.Does that fact that processor has EM64T support and HyperThreading have anything to do with it?I have done all the usual things such as defragging ,upgrading chipset drivers, ect. any clues anyone. Best wishes Grayson |

I have a PC with a P4 3GHz processor and it runs SHIII with no problems, so I wouldn't have thought this is the cause of the problem unless it is faulty or incompatible with your set up in some way.

When you install the game, the setup pops up the requirements and if your computer is good enought. I guess it's more then good, but the program said that my 1.866GHz E6300 Intel Core 2 DUO wouldn't be able to play the game at recomended requirements. Be sure it is. So it "might" be faulty.
Maybe you have a drivers problem. Or it's you Windows. Anything can happen. |

Hi there Albrecht.
Yeah thats my point. The info screen at start up says that the cpu has EM64T support which as far as i can see means that if you go to a 64bit OS, the cpu will starrt working at 64bit(you also need a compatible mother board),but i`m running windows XP home edition, service pack2(32bit).Also i have no other software problems with the machine. Download MemTest86 from http://www.memtest86.com/. Run it from a bootable floppy or bootable CD. It will identify any obvious memory problems independently of Windows. If it runs successfully for two or three passes move to the next step. Download Prime95 from http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm. Run it in Torture Test mode. This stresses your memory subsystem. If you can run it continuously for at least eight hours your RAM is probably fine. If it locks up then you need to look at your RAM voltage and also your CPU (core) voltage. If it runs successfully move on to the next step. Download CPUBurn4 from http://forum.doom9.org/attachment.ph...4&d=1053782812. With your CPU run BURNP6.EXE for an hour or so. This stresses your CPU. While overclockers primarily use CPUBurn to gauge CPU temperatures under load (so run a CPU temperature monitoring program at the same time), failure may indicate CPU undervoltage. If you all three tests run successfully and you still have SH3 lockups then you're getting into more difficult diagnosis territory, but at least you'll know it's not your rig per se. |
