Default What is your oldest running PC component?

The other night I was thinking to myself what is the oldest component that I still use with or in my PC? This question includes any peripherals attached be it a keyboard, monitor, mouse or anything else for that matter. So what is the oldest component you use or that is incorporated within your PC?

I'm not sure myself. I will have a look at my old receipts and components in my case to see what is the oldest component still in use. I suspect it might be the memory or soundcard. :hmm:

What about others here? Please share.

My old Compaq 2110 Win95 I've had for over 10 years and still running and no repairs or upgrades, not bad for a PC that should be in a museum.

And the original monitor as well.

My PC is pretty much brand new (1 year old now), but I still use my 15-year-old Atari 520ST sometimes.

My 19" monitor is at least 5 years old. (I think) I got it with the kick-back for using MSN as my internet provider for 3 years.

My trusty 15" monitor, Sony Multiscan 110ES. It's some 7-8 years old but still works like a charm. Had it already in mothballs but had to dig it up when my 19" Crapsung blew up.

I'll be getting myself a whole new computer some time soon and I'll be getting a new screen in the process.. a Sony 23" flatscreen beast. Yay

One of my daughters is working off of an old Dell Optiplex GX1 that was purchased in 1999. It's got a PIII and is running W2K.

The only components that are not original are the mouse, keyboard, LCD monitor, CD burner and the wireless PCI adapter. Otherwise, they system box is all original.

However, I think we'll be buying her a replacement, as you can imagine how sluggish the machine is with today's web pages, file downloads and streaming videos.

After much thought and investigation I determined that the oldest still running component on my current PC are the speakers. They date back to 1997 and came with my Gateway computer that I bought at the time. The speakers are a 2.1 system that Gateway sourced from Boston Acoustics so they had good pedigree but are starting to show their age now. But for basic gaming they still get me by.

Thanks for the responses subsimmers. It has made for some interesting reading. It certainly is a change from the common topic question of "What are your latest blistering fast system specs or new build system?"

2 things - my keyboard is of the earlier ergonomic varieties and dates about to 1994. 1 of my 2 mice than I have hooked up to my system also is from the same time - it is a PS/2 Microsoft Ergo mouse - the original nice ones with a smooth curved finish, heavy ball, etc (Why don't they make their new ones like this old one? I'd pay $100 for a new version of this mouse. I originally paid over $80 for it). Won't give it up for anything. I have a 2000 DPI Boomslang Razor mouse for gaming, but for the most part, I use the MS Ergo mouse.

-S

PS. Everything else is completely new, or at about 1 yr old at the latest such as my Plextor DVD burner.
