The North Sea is seldom kind enough to grant me the weather to move them- I generally try to get them under ASAP. What was the point of having external reserves in the first place? Couldn't they just use that kind of space to store them internally?
Also, it is a shame I can't move the stern external reserve fish to my forward compartments. I seldom need more than the 1-2 stern torpedoes in my VIIB, and often times I could really use that fish in one of my front tubes. |

How i manage my torpedos, from a type IX fanboy:
If its a single ship, i use my stern tubes and save my bow for multiple targets. Then bring in the aft external ASAP. I'll do this until i expended all of my aft external stores. If i run into another single ship, ill use my stern tubes again. Saving the bow for multiple contacts. I'll do this until i have expended all of my aft internal stores, leaving the last aft fish in the tubes for emergencies. Then, regardless of contact, ill use my bow tubes, and bring in external stores ASAP. Then after more contacts, ill use my forward internal stores. At some point i will have 6 loaded tubes and no more reserves. Aft tubes again get priority if a single contact. Oncee all aft tubes are empty, ill use the bow tubes again. At some point im out of torpedo's, and at no point do i have fish in the aft torpedo room, and none in the bow. |

It's funny that this topic comes up, because just last night I came across a fast moving surface group (21kts!) in BE61 in october 39, with one carrier and at least one king george, and I only had torpedoes left in the rear tube in my type VII! ![]() For those interested, I managed a shot at the carrier at about 3500 m, missed, and had to dive deep to evade the destroyers (hence why I am unsure about the number of battleships, but I think I saw two). Happy hunting! Ian |

That stragegy works because loading external stores in SH3 isn't modled very well. You just have to be on the surface, and have an empty internal slot. How long it takes is dictated by crew effiiency. Infact loading these stores is modleded so poorly, you can acutally pick up where you left off (time wise) after a very short dive.. say, no more then 2 mins or so underwater.
