crashes - r they associated w/GreyWolves?

i got myself the greywolves, right? so i'm a-playin' (started w/training academy), to check out new greywolves changes, and what do u know. went to the convoy kill training and played several -- more than hour probably. went to the map (regular, not TDC) and (maybe the desktop wanted to alert some prog or something like my zonealarm sometimes updates and minimizes everything) but the thing is it froze up. EVERYTHING FROZE. all of it. grrrrrrr

then as i was playing (subsequent to this crash) again a very goood outcome - 3 dead very well it crashed to desktop! haHA!

so can you help? i got only greywolves w/o SH3 commander, yet.:rotfl:

If your whole system froze (not just CTD), then it almost sounds hardware related. I'm not an expert though, just speaking from personal experience.

Personally I gave up on the GW mod. I've been playing SH3 without problems for almost a year now, but recently the 2 times I installed GW onto a fresh, newly-patched SH3 installation, it caused my game to crash on launch. I have the digital download version of the game from Direct2Drive...maybe that's why it won't work?

From my experience, when you uninstall SH3 there are still numerous files left hanging around.

First, do a search for the leftover SH3 directory and delete it. If running SH3 Commander, uninstall it and do a search for the leftover SH3 Commander directory and delete it. Then delete the leftover SH3 files under "my documents." Then, run a program like Crap Cleaner (which is a free download by the way). You'll be surprised at the number of leftover files it comes up with! Next, do a checkdisk of your drive followed by a defrag of the harddrive.

Now, install SH3. Next install 1.4b patch and then install Grey Wolves. If running SH3 Commander, install it. Note: you'll need to open SH3 one time before you open with SH3 Commander because some files need to be set up first.

I know this because I had to do all of this last night myself. Note: I tried the 16k light option on Grey Wolves and it slowed my computer down to a crawl. So, I had to go and reinstall GW without it and it now works great.

Hope this is helpful.

Ah I figured it out. It wasn't the mod, it was my trying to use the mod with a saved career PRE-mod installation!

I've started over again, sailing out of Kiel in a shiny new VIIB...and Kaleun Bernhard Locker (as in, "...to the bottom of Davey Jones's...") in command. I have barely sailed out of port and ALREADY love the improved interface and dark atmosphere! This mod makes SHIII even better, and that's no mean feat!

Thanks for the suggestions all. Now off to sink some limey tonnage!
