I have a couple of installations of SHIII with different mods on. My primary installation (in the default SHIII folder) has GW1.1a on it and my other installation under a different folder name has other mods. I now want to delete the installation with the other mods on as I don't use it anymore and it is just taking up hard disk space. Is it just a case of deleting the folder that contains the version of SHIII with the other mods on or will that have some bad effect on the SHIII installation generally? Any help appreciated.

I'll say No
Deleting will not cause any mess ups. because it are different folders seperated they have no connection to eachother what so ever. Good luck ![]()

From what I have experienced, using dual or more installs with different mods and SH3 commander can mix the game files up a little bit.But if that happens, and after deleting the secondary folder your GW1.1 has some problems, just installing it again will solve them. But these problems rarely happen so there's not so much to worry about.

@ Captain Nemo: Delete away, but if you are running SH3Cmdr, rollback first.
@ enaceo: There's two ways to totally ensure that SH3Cmdr does not "cross pollenate" your SH3 installs: 1. Get into the habit of always running SH3Cmdr and performing a rollback immediately AFTER you have exited SH3; 2. Create multiple SH3Cmdr installations and use the /l: switch with each one to point to each different installation. The second solution will ensure no cross pollenation, but the down side is duplicate installations of SH3Cmdr. However, if you don't trust yourself with the first solution, this is the way to go. Personally, the first thing I do whenever I exit SH3 is rollback SH3Cmdr. Thus I've never had any problems. |

But,is there any ...problem with having 2 sh3 commanders? For example,if I want to have a W@w career with NYGm and another career with GW ,will using a separate commander cause any problems?

No, you've got to rollback immediately AFTER you exit SH3. Otherwise, this is what happens:
1. You rename SH3 - GW to be your primary SH3 2. You run SH3Cmdr which rolls back and then loads files into this installation of SH3 3. You exit SH3 4. You rename this SH3 installation back to SH3 - GW then rename SH3 - NYGM to be your primary SH3 5. You run SH3Cmdr which rolls back into this installation of SH3 the files that it backed up last time and then loads new files See what's happened? The files SH3Cmdr backed up when you ran SH3 (- GW) have now been restored into SH3 (- NYGM). But if you rolled back immediately after exiting SH3 and prior to any SH3 installation folder renaming, you'd never have this problem. And no there is no problems with having multiple installations of SH3Cmdr. There's instructions on how to do this in the SH3Cmdr sticky. |
