That is great, the more the better and especially so in the interests of future subsims, but I'm curious as to why so long after the initial release.
Could be the mega mods breathed new life into SH3 and word is spreading but I think there must be something else at work here. Maybe the newcomers to the community would tell us themselves what sparked their interest in SH3. |

Well, my return to SH3 is because of Grey Wolves. I also think the game is very cheap at for instance play.com.

Nothing thrilling here but I simply needed an (other) excuse before I upgraded my computer to be able to handle the game. I have owned SHIII since last year.

I am completely new to this game and sub sims in general. I only got this game because I was searching for a new game and it had good reviews on a few different websites so I thought I would give it a try.
Well now I am completely addicted! I played through the tutorials alone for like 8 hours straight lol. I guess my joining with all the other newcomers is just a coincidence. |

It might be because of Silent Hunter IV.
Silent Hunter III is my first real sub game (the only other thing I've ever played is the 688 demo). I grew tired of playing RTS and FPS games and wanted some variation. So I thought, "hey, why not a submarine game"? I started a thread asking for recommendations and got Silent Hunter III. I read some reviews and watched some movies, and here I am.

well guys what can i say...when i was young, when i was 6-7 years old, my daddy bought an AMIGA 500+...and started to play war games...so i was caught in the net of the floppy world..searchin everywhere with my daddy games to play...i had a subsim game that was made for AMIGA 500+..but i can't remind the name..maybe it was really named Das-Boot, if i ain't wrong...so our passion grew high, and when 486 was out..we bought it..then it was the time for Aces of the Deep, but this game had a terrible bug....corvettes and freighters running at 60 or 80 knots aren't that kind of hard thing, are impossible!....and we sticked to 486 for a looooooooong time, we changed it to the First Athlon 1 Ghz, and my dad still use it, while i went to a 3,4 Pentium...and one day..........searching around......feeling that there was no such possibility to find a game like the OLD ones i loved to play, the ones who sticked my attention only to find how to properly land my B-17 without loosing my ball turret....the ones who plugged me to the seat for days and months like that ****in Death Star, and me shoutin "U'LL DIE EMPEROR U'LL DIE MY SON OF A BITCH!!!!!!" (or when it came out TIE FIGHTER "U'LL DIE REBELS, EAT THIS REBELS, LUKE UR A DUMBASS!!!!!).....well i was there looking at games like COD 2, NFS, all the new-without-hope-only-graph-filled-games...and there......i found....S.......H........3........
so i thought........really i thought......LET'S SHOUT ALAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRMMMM and buy this game! so i did, and the rest is history.... |

I think one of the reasons the sight is seeing more newbies is because they read the posts and discover that most everyone here is very helpful. This might put them a bit more at ease to ask questions as opposed to just lurking.
So. ![]() ![]() |

I played SH2 a lot, but didn't get around to SH3 until Feb or so this year. Only have time for a game or two at a time, and I was into Rome: Total War. Put that aside at least for a while in favour of SH3. Can't get over how good it is, not to mention all the mods. I don't get tired of it a bit.

I bought this game last christmas, but I have been too busy to play it until now.
Don't know why now of all the times this summer, maybe just getting bored with everything I already have around here... |

Some of my friends who normally have no interest in simulation games play Silent Hunter 3. I think there are several reasons why this game has such a wide appeal:
1. Stunning graphics which runs well on modest systems 2. Crew animations, you have a crew with names and faces which adds to the immersion, the different stations in 3D make you feel you actually are aboard a WW2 U-boat. 3. Unlike flightsims a subsim is less built on reflexes and assigning a gazillion buttons on your keyboard. To attack a convoy and survive you have to plan one step ahead. 4. Excellent mods |

TIE Fighter... Best Star Wars game ever. From way back when the Star Wars games were good. Buy X-Wing Alliance and download the TIE Fighter mission pack for it (search the forums of www.xwaupgrade.com). All the missions of TF with XWA UP's graphics=Joy.
Yes, the friendiness here is pretty unique.

Well even though i already had SH2 i was and still am a die hard flight simmer, but when SH3 hit the shops i was dying to get it only to find i had to get some pretty radical upgrades done to my computer( windows xp, DVD player, and a much better graphics card) now this isn't a sob story but on a civil servants wage it took alot of begging the little woman to let me upgrade to the best performance required. As for subsim i did a search and found some wonderful people to help me in times of trouble, and as for MODS i never heard of any of them untill i came here. Hats off and many thanks SUBSIM.
