This has to be in the game!

I don't care which side I'm on but there has to be kamikaze attacks. It would be cool to be on the surface and see some zeros coming at you and crash diving to have the smash into the haul. Or watch an american battleship battle it out with some zeros.

I'm sure it'd be a fun visual but I know of no instances where a US sub ever came under kamikaze attack. The Japanese were more keen on the high prestige targets. Plus, they were usually not operating directly with US fleet elements and invasion forces when they were hit by kamikazes.

However, there was that one instance during the Battle of the Philippine Sea where a torpedo spread from the Albacore was actually intercepted by a Japanese strike pilot diving into one of them saving the carrier Taiho from one hit anyway. (The other torpedo proved fatal later) That was pretty much a one-time freak occurance tho.

Talk about taking one for the team...

You've got to admire their fighting spirit at least.

Yeah...the Japanese pilot's name was Sakio Komatsu. Probably the only known instance of a 'defensive' kamikaze attack.

BTW if Ubi ever decides to do a Destroyer Command 2, then kamikazes are certainly on my 'must include' list. Destroyers in a radar picket role really took it on the chin from them.

He took out the first torp, but the second hit, it wasn't a fatel hit, as the ship continued to steeam along in formation. The hit had ruptured the avgas fuel tanks at the bottom of the ship so avgas leaked out. A Japanese version of Gomer Pile decided to get rid of the fumes by switiching on the vetilation fans, causeing the fumes to be spread through out the entire ship.
Somewhere on the ship, something caused a sparke, and the rest is history.

I wonder who gets credit? The sub or the Japanese Navy for scoring an own goal??

Kamikazes against sub isn't need for SHIV. I would like to see mix ups happen so you get attacked by your own side. It happened and it would keep you on edge everytime you saw and aircraft or ship, no matter where you were

Why would your sub be so close to a US battle ship ?

Assigned to the area between Sagami Wan and the northern Nanpo Shoto, USS Devilfish was attacked by a kamikaze plane on 20 March 1945 before she entered her patrol area. The plane crashed her as the submarine was submerging, destroying the mast structure and causing serious leakage. USS Devilfish returned to Saipan and Pearl Harbor for repairs, departing Pearl Harbor 20 May on her third patrol.

Also haven't you seen German battleships in Silent Hunter III?

...don't know if it's been mentioned...

but, how about ability to have some authentic, live-feed Hawaiian music streamed into the game?

What I'm thinking of is being able to click onto a on/off/volume control, radio knob and toggle on/off/volume...rather than clicking onto a pulldown/pullup or slideout menu then selecting an icon that looks like a victrola horn speaker...

Hmmm, I'm guessing in time-future, someone will have a virtual radio in the radioshack, where you'll be able to slide your cursor across the dial and choose the station you want. I seem to remember every garage in the '40s having a 5 tube wonder up on the shelf to at least listen to the news, wx, and ball scores..."and now, back to our program."

Default I've seen a kamikaze in SH3! :)

Well, in SH3 a fighter plane managed to kamikaze me as I was trying to shoot it down on a nice sunny day in the middle of the atlantic.

It was on an attack run, my gunners damaged it, and it failed to stop descending and ran right into the conning tower, wiping out my aft AA gunner and exploding. Looked pretty damn impressive from where I was watching on the deck... although I didn't get credit for the kill!

...of course, intentional kamikazes are something else. ;-)
