Default Just dont make things to last...

As the title says..they just don't make things to last anymore.

Just a few days ago my GeForce 6600GT decided to give up the ghost..after only 5-6 months of use.Now I am stuck with a 5900XT until NewEgg sends me the replacement card. Now all the problems like the white smoke and other glitches are showing that I never saw with my 6600GT..GRRRRR!!!!!

Also one thing I am seeing that I never saw before is when I was in the open ocean and at periscope depth setting up an attack on a Large Merchant my framerate counter was showing 98FPS but I was stuttering something fierce. Not sure what was causing that...anyone have any ideas on what the cause may be?

Graphic cards.....Expensive piece of Junks that dont last long...

in 6 months I had 3 NEW cards!

Geforce FX5500 256 mb - Burned out
Geforce FX5700LE 256 mb - Burned out
Geforce FX5700LE 256 TD ram - still working

it was guaranty work so...but still....these new cards are good, but their lifeline is very short. they can work today...but what about tomorow?:hmm:

but also do not turn ur PC on 24/7 a week, turn it off when ur done...
and yes SH3 is quit an System Eater, the important things of games of today is RAM and Graphic Cards

and your stuttering graphics might be your current Graphic card

When the shop made an mistake and putted in an Second FX5500(main Stream card) wich i didnt agree with (I orderd an Performance Card) because i started to play SH3 and i had the same stuttering as you describe.

The heat sink fell off my 6600GT ,card was cooked in 3 minutes
Waited 1 month for a replacement , the replacement card was faulty
Finaly the nice folks where I bought the card just gave me a brand new one.
Who's to blame!? MSI? NVIDIA? I'd like to know so I can avoid them in the future.

Funny thing is I know 4 computer techs who do this for a living that will say different.

They tell me do not turn the system off and on...just keep it on with a screensaver as the constant heating and cooling of the parts will cause more damage/wear to the parts and cause more problems than just keeping it on.

As for who to blame..you really have to blame the manufacturer. Most build there own cards and just use the Nvidia GPU's.I had 3 BFG cards in a 2 month period of time all blow out with a faulty capacitor. So needless to say I do not buy from BFG any longer.

It is getting pretty bad with the new cards and there shoddy craftsmanship and short life anymore..I remember buying my first GeForce card after 3DFX went out of buisness..that lasted me for nearly 1-1 1/2 years and was still good when I upgraded. Now like was said your lucky if they last for 4-5 months before they burn out on you.

Well...I just turn my Computer off when I,m done....

Coz my second card the FX5700LE 256 ram , burned out after 4 days continues beeing on and I started to play SH3 and I used TC 1024X and after 5 minutes BLAM! screen turned black....Holy smokes....after that my screen turned black after 25 minutes playing an game or watching an DVD on it....

But...you know...I call the comps of today a lot more vulnerable then the old Pentium II- III my 330Mhz survived without any kind of problems over 7 years. after I did a test if an old 1996 Pentium 2 330mhz - 64 Ram and 8 Vga card ...could run XP Pro....Well It didnt my Motherboard just died after the login screen

Hmmmmm, bought this Dell Dimension 8200 in December 02 with the nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 64MB in it. Still going strong and plays SHIII fairly well, stutters a bit at 1024 TC. Probably be better with 128MB on board the card but then again my rig only has 512MB memory and I'm sure 1 gig would help too. Not bad for a 4 year old system, but I should upgrade it a bit at least memory wise. Wouldn't mind putting in a better Video card and a 2nd Hard Drive in while I'm at it.

I have a 6600 gt and it´s working well after one year of use.
But i have the box modded . I drill a 8cm hole in the box with a cutting machine and install a two more fans of 8 cm , a blower extracting and the power supply is sucking hot air from inside of the box.
Despite this if in summer i see that the temperature is a bit high, i open the side of the box, the bad point is the noise,i can´t running silent

It's not just graphics cards that aren't build to last: the way the pc industry has been developing these past years has reduced the longevity of many parts. It depends on the company, but I feel that more and more manufacturers produce their goods with the idea that people upgrade their systems every 2-3 years. Ergo, their products do not have to last for ages on end. The real quality manufacturers (I'm thinking Logitech for instance) do produce good longlasting stuff but you pay through the nose for them.

Maybe I'm just spoiled, but I remember the Commodore era. My Amiga 500 took 14 years before developing what seems to be critical faults; my Amiga 1200 hasn't developed any error at all after almost 13 years and my Commodore 64 is still functional after 18 years. That stuff was built to last...and they could run a mean game of Silent Service II as well!

Kind regards,

Eichenlaub

I had an AOpen Geforce 2 MX400 die on me way back. No problems with the ATI cards that I've owned since (a 9600 XT and a Sapphire X700 Pro).
